I hate insurance!
I was washing my hair on Sunday night when I felt a pop in my left shoulder. I rotated it a bit right after and it went back in but it hurt pretty badly. I ended up going to the ER because I couldn't lift my arm over my head. Anyway, luckily no dislocation or fracture but I did sprain it. The dr. gave me a referral to an orthopedist just to make sure that there were no other issues. I called, got an appointment, and went there today and...
My stupid crappy insurance (Empire, Healthy NY) will not accept a referral from a hospital, only from a PCP, which I don't have b/c I recently switched insurances and am going to be switching insurances again after this week with my new job. Luckily the receptionist at the ortho's office told me this before the dr. saw me so I wouldn't get charged the full visit amount but seriously? How does a referral from a PCP trump a hospital referral??
This is my first time ever really needing my insurance for anything other than a simple dr. visit so I guess I didn't know what to expect. I think it's way more complicated than it needs to be. Luckily my shoulder feels a bit better today.

Re: I hate insurance!
riddle me this
my insurace doesn't cover lancets that I need to check my blood sugar
but for $5 I can get 6 flex pens of insulin that retail for $250 normally
I paid more for 100 lancets then I paid for the actual meds I need
makes no sense- luckily the lancets aren't too expensive but still- makes no sense

That is insane... My husband (Type 2 diabetic) gets all his testing supplies for free. Thankfully. What meter do you use? I have at least 5-7 boxes of lancets here. 100 each box..

Re: I hate insurance!
I need to learn how to get them for free!- can you FM how you go about it- my aunt was mentioning this to me also
I have a contour meter-
I bought a box- it was $16 and that lasts me a while
I was paying cash for everything up until July 1- the money I saving on test strips pays for half my health insurace- I was paying $30 a week- now $5 for a months worth
