crate training question
We are crate training our puppy Lilly. She does pretty well with going pee pee and poopie outside maybe once a day she has an accident in the house. My question is, it wrong to keep her out of the crate a majority of the day IF we are home? I feel so bad leaving her in there. I bascially only have her in the crate for bedtime and if we go out or if I am busy and simply cannot keep an eye on her. We are teachers and come next week she will be crating most of the day with the exception of a dog walker mid day. I want her house broken sooner than later.
Thank you :)

Re: crate training question
If you are home then you can keep her out of the crate but don't let her have free roam of the house. Keep her in the same room as you so that you can watch her.
We slowly introduced new rooms around the house with our dog until we trusted him enough to know that the house is not for peeing/pooping.
Dogs are creatures of habit so eventually she will know that outside means potty time! GL!

Re: crate training question
Oh yeah, we never left our dogs in the crate while we were home. Only when we're not home!

Re: crate training question
She has to learn to be out of the crate while you are home and not potty in the house. Take her out A LOT! Like at least every hour or twice an hour to start. Every time she goes outside and potties lots and lots of praise. Eventually cut back how often you take her out as she gets older. She'll get it!
