Vomiting while trying to do CIO???
My DS is 9 months old and I've always rocked him to sleep. I want to train him with the CIO method but each time I try he vomits after crying for a few minutes. He gets himself so hysterical. Did anyone else experience this??? I feel so bad after he does it that I don't have the heart to put him back in the crib.
Any suggestions?

Re: Vomiting while trying to do CIO???
mine did this (son).. When he did it, I would just go right in, clean him and the mess up and then go back out.. I will tell you that he stopped vomiting shortly thereafter.. he knew mommy wasn't playing around :O)

Thanks, I'm going to have to try that. Did your son do it everytime you let him CIO?

Re: Vomiting while trying to do CIO???
Yes, the little rascal did it every time.. he was a smart cookie but mommy won that battle quick..
when you go in there, make no eye contact.. go in, do what you have to do and then head on out..
GL! Remember, it's always harder on US!

Re: Vomiting while trying to do CIO???
I JUST started CIO! DD did this the first night so far. I kept the light off, changed her, put her in her swing, changed the sheets, cleaned the carpet - the whole time I was whispering or singing lullabies (even though I want to cry/curse and scream ) then I picked her up, gave her a kiss and put her back down - she was asleep in less than a half hour. Last night, no puking!
My cousin's son would throw up EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. My cousin actually got to the point that she would just lay a shower curtain over the floor so she didnt have to keep cleaning the carpet! After about two weeks (he was a stubborn one!) he started to STTN and now he is 6yo and goes right to sleep on his own every night!
I dont know if she ever did this - but I have the same doctor as her. . .and he said - no one ever got sick from having a little puke on them . . . I have never had to go that far but I will tell you that exhaustion is a HORRIBLE thing and I was ready to TRY ANYTHING to get some sleep since I am a FTWM and up at 5AM
good luck to you, I posted my CIO experience and it is still a work in progress but these two nights of sleep have been worth all the tears!

Re: Vomiting while trying to do CIO???
Thanks ladies. I'm def going to have to do this. I'm also a FTWM and I get up at 5am too!
He also still wakes up between 3:30-4:30am for a bottle which he is def doing out of habit now. Most mornings I can't get him back to sleep until it's time for us to get up and get ready for work!

Re: Vomiting while trying to do CIO???
When my DD was about 7 months old I tried CIO and she vomitted.....I gave up b/c it made me too sad. SOooooo I rocked her until 1 wk before she turned 1. Finally I had to stop b/c I developed back issues (not b/c of rocking her) but I tried CIO and she didn't vomit and did great. DdS will be 2 in a few wks......she goes in awake and puts herself asleep since then and if she wakes up in the morning she is able to play in her crib for a while and sometimes puts herself back to sleep!! I think when I have a 2nd kid I will be trying this much younger and not give up!!!GL
