I will never know how people leave their babies..it's a calling I will never know.
I admire and respect our service men and women so much..their sacrifices can't be measured.

That was my first thought as well! While I admire and appreciate their effort immensely, I can not conceive of how a MOTHER can put herself on active duty KNOWING she might have to get up and LEAVE her children for G'd only knows how many months or even years!

I would think that most of these women aren't given a choice. A friend of mine was in the army for two years of her five when she and her husband had a baby. She was given NO CHOICE but to go to war when her unit was called, she still had three years "active duty" left. She was in agony over what to do but in the end there was no alternative.

Re: Saw this picture on Pinterest and it made me cry
no matter how many times I see this photo, I instantly tear up
I give our servicemen and women so much respect for doing what they're doing. I can't imagine how it must feel to be separated from their families

Am I the only one who is (perhaps pretending) that those are tears of joy because she's reuinted with her daughter after being gone for a long time?

ITA. My DH joined before we had children. He says he "never expected it to be as hard to leave them as it is".
I could never, ever do it. Heck, I have never even left them overnight yet (I left DS #1 for 2 nights while I was in the hospital having DS #2, but that's it)

Same here.. when I saw it I thought it looked like they were being reunited. It still made me cry!

I was wondering that as well....
That picture makes me cry instantly.....I have SO much respect for our military because they give up everything and sacrifice so much for us....even thought they have no idea who we are. It's such an unselfish, amazing thing to do.
And I know I'm not nearly strong enough to do it.

That's exactly what I thought..just still it had to have been the most difficult thing..her face says it all.
