Allergy to pain meds
I had a car accident a few weeks ago. The doctor gave me vicodin on Wednesday because I was having so much pain and having surgery on Friday.
During surgery I was intubated. After surgery I was given morphine. When I got home Friday night the doctor told me to stop taking the vicodin and take the percocet.
I had noticed Thursday I was a little itchy but no big deal (I am allergic to a lot of things)... Just figured it was normal. On Saturday when I woke up, I felt short of breathe. Saturday, Sunday and for the short part of Monday I am ridiculously itchy. No hives but I have made myself bleed from scratching. This is typical when I have an allergic reaction.
What else can you take if you are allergic to pain meds? What is in the pain meds that you are allergic to?
Thanks

Re: Allergy to pain meds
I agree that is could be because of the anesthesia also. After both my c-sections I was extremely itchy. They even had to give me an antihistamine in the hospital after my 2nd because my skin was raw from scratching it.
I am also allergic to vicodin. They gave me a prescription after I had my wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago. I took it the 1st day and started getting itchy and hives. The next morning I took another dose and immediately starting throwing up and my hives were worse. I discontinued the meds and was given steroids to counter act the allergic reaction.
When I had my c-sections I let them know I was allergic and they gave me some other kind of pain meds. Oxy something and I didn't have a reaction to them.
