....HOW DID YOU DO IT!?!?

I was reading the thread the other day and was shocked at the # of women who said they only took Motrin.

All I kept thinking is it's major surgery - a cut in your abdomen and then another cut in your uterus...and then stitches galore..internally and externally..

how'd you guys survive without taking prescription pain meds after???

I'm sooooo not pro-medicine @ all...I rarely take Tylenol, but if I had not had my Codeine, I would have died I think.

I remember that after a shift change, the night nurse forgot to wake me up to take my pain pill, and I woke up and was in so much pain. It was brutal......

Did you have pain meds in an IV or something? I honestly can't wrap my head around no pain meds....enlighten me. I am curious!

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..

If I am in pain I take medicine not heavy Mets but tylenol/advil.

I think I took the percoset once in the hospital and then I took motrin as needed. I think a few times they forced the motrin on me. I didn't need it and didn't want it. I wasn't trying to be noble or to prove anything. I was also running on adrenaline. I had been on bed rest for 3 months so the fact that I could walk around was exciting. Also my girls were in the NICU so I was back and forth between my room and the NICU visiting them so I guess I didn't think about the pain I was only thinking of them. When I was discharged doctor gave me script for pain meds and I never filled it.

I took the meds in the hospital only that same day and the next day. From then on I took motrin. They sent me home with motrin and darvoset which was very mild, it didnt alter my mind at all which why I stopped taking the meds in the hospital, I was soooo loopy. At home I took the darvoset maybe twice bc it hurt more bc I was doing more.

It was giving me anxiety. I took a few after my c/s, and I couldn't handle it. I stuck w/ tylenol around the clock, and made sure I always took it on time. It is just important to make sure you never reach peak pain, once you do it is hard to bring it back down. I can't handle strong pain meds at all. I rather feel the pain then the side effects.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..

For me, there was no choice. I have the worst stomach and pain meds all make me puke(BAD). The thought of puking after my C's with staples in my stomach was enough to make me deal and just put my head in a happy place! LOL I took 800mg Motrin

They offered me anything I wanted, Vicadin, Percocet etc

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..

I got 1 percoset right after and then took about 2-3 doses of motrin.

I think everyone is different in what their body can tolerate. My DH was shocked by how I was getting around So soon after. I think I have some of my grandma in me, sge was so tough when it came to surgeries and such.

Believe it or not the gas pain a few weeks later was worse!!

I also hated the way the percoset made me feel..I would rather have the pain than feel like that.

Honestly, I did not take anything but Motrin in the hospital and that was even because the nurses would not stop asking me.

I am not a pill person, hate them in fact.

When I got home from the Hospital, I would say 4 days later I took 1 percocet because I really over did myself trying to be a hero and running around all over the house, picking up the baby, etc..

For me, Motrin actually worked better and longer than Percoset, believe it or not! I've tried both with all three of my c-sections, and each time Motrin did the job better.

they gave me meds in the hospital - i didnt want percocet bc i took it once and i could barely hold my boys so i didnt want it anymore. then, when i came home, i didnt take anything - not even motrin. i dont know why, i think i kinda forgot to be honest!

Honestly, I have no idea how I did it... I didn't even take a Motrin! Chat Icon

My OB told me that pain meds are combined and injected with the spinal tap before the surgery.

I don't usually have a high threshold for pain, so I was very shocked at the fact that I felt no pain at all. Very weird bc I was expecting the worst!!

i hear these people talking about having their pain pump in for 24 hours and i am so jealous!!

i had my c/s about 9pm. I took percocet the next morning and afternoon and didn't like how i felt so i switched to motrin. i was up and moving a lot b/c my twins were down in the NICU and I had to get down there and see them. sometimes after walking down there i would need the motrin but the pain wasn't as terrible as i was expecting. not sure if the pain wasn't so bad, or i just blocked it out b/c i was so worried about the babies.

Really? I used Motrin only. The pain was really not bad at all.

ive had 6 major surgeries and only took motrin after the c-section. mostly because i was BFing and didn't want to risk it. its really not that bad. the first 2 days are rough, but it gets much better.

I only took motrin. I have never taken pain medication before and was worried about being loopy and out of it and didn't want that to ruin the first few days with DS. After Day 3 the pain wasn't so bad, just very tight when trying to stand up.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..

Once they took the spinal out all they wanted to do was give me pain meds. I really didn't feel like I needed them. I also wanted to be alert for the baby and all of the people/family that came to visit. I guess I had a high pain threshold. I never took anything. IMO, unless the pain is completely unbearable, your body wants you to feel uncomfortable in order for you to slow down so that you can heal and recover.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..

When I had my csec and truthfully the pain wasn't so bad. I was so elated to have my baby girl I barely thought about the pain. I drove the nurses crazy I wanted to get up 2 hrs after my csec and get dressed, I wanted the catheter out. I felt sore but never really any pain. I took motrin the first two days but that was it. Everyone had me afraid of the stairs but I really didn't find them bad at all, uncomfy but manageable.

Re: For all you ladies who DID NOT take prescription pain meds for your c/s...I gotta know..

I am assuming it is because it took time for the meds to wear off from the surgery? Chat Icon

I don't know. I never needed anything more than the motrin and even then I could've done without it. The nurses were the ones pushing it on me.

I agree with a pp though. I was
"walking" around less than 10 hours later. I also think I have a pretty high threshold for pain.

I took Motrin, but no Percoset (sp?). I didn't want to be out of it, since DS was in the NICU, so I needed to go downstairs to see him. Honestly, I wasn't in that much pain. I remember having one bad night and they gave me some extra Motrin.
