Scary Morning
This morning, I put a sock on my 3-month-old DD's foot, and when I went to put the second sock on, she started screaming. Not just crying; she was screaming bloody murder. It was horrifying. Since she'd started screaming when the sock went on, I pulled it off again and saw that she had strands of my hair wrapped around two of her toes so tight, her toes were bright white at the tips. I tried to pull the hair off, but it just seemed to make it tighter. So I grabbed some nail scissors (really sharp!) and held her down while DH tried to get the scissors through the hair. But the hair was so tight against her skin it took several minutes to cut through without cutting her. Poor DD was screaming and thrashing the whole time. It was awful.
I have NO IDEA how this happened. It was a tangle of hair and was wrapped around her tiny little toes several times. Wrapped around once, I'd understand. But around and around... how did that happen?
So, I know it's been said before, but watch out for any hair around your DC's hands and feet. And if your DC is screaming for what appears to be no reason, check the fingers and toes to see if there is anything wrapped around them. I'm so glad I checked.

Re: Scary Morning
Oh, Dava :( How scary!!! I was just reading about that on babycenter. I check her toes often because she always gets lint in them from her socks so I'm always cleaning them. It's crazy how that can happen.
I will definitely keep checking for that.
Glad she is ok. SOOOO scary!

Re: Scary Morning
I am so sorry you had to go through that I am so glad your DD is OK Our pediatrician warned us about that as well. He suggested that we put their clothes inside out when washing and drying. Is a lot more work to do that, but a lot safer. The idea is that a lot of hair and lint tend to get stuck in the sucks and sleep and plays while washing and the dryer just makes it worst. When you wash and dry inside out, you have a better chance of all the hair and lint to be out. I do that all the time with my triplets clothes (and there are plenty of them---very time consuming but worth it). Of course, I still check their clothes too! Make sure you also tell your babysitter or care giver if you have one.

Re: Scary Morning
Oh my, so glad you found it!
I posted a reminder about hair tourniquets a few weeks ago. I don't know HOW it happens, but it does and it can be dangerous, and it's very painful for them.
If your baby is crying and you can't figure out why, please always strip them down and check all of their appendages! If you have a son, check his penis and testicles too!

This just happened to my 2 1/2 year old! He was complaining all day that his foot hurt and finally I took his sock off and his two toes were blue!! So scary...I agree with the above post, try washing socks inside out.

Re: Scary Morning
This happened when DS was 2 months old. We discovered it while bathing him and the toe was purple! It was so scary! Luckily, DH was able to cut it and the toe regained circulation without lasting damage. I've heard of this happening around other body parts too (like a boy's penis) and it's so scary!
If your DD wears feety PJs, check inside each of the feet - lots of times your hair will gather in there and you don't realize it. I used to turn them inside out every time I washed them to be sure.
