Flying with a 10 month old..WWYD
We plan on flying down to florida in May for our Nephew's 1st birthday. The trio will be 10months. My DH and I won't be alone with the 3 kids, my MIL and FIL will also be flying with us. Here is our dilemma. I wanted to bring each child on as a lap child. We have 4 adults and 3 kids, so we could essential pass them around throughout the flight. My DH wanted to buy 2 extra seats for the babies so that way we could have 2 carseats on the plane and just carry one baby as a lap child. That is adding an extra $700 to our trip and we are only going for a long weekend. I said I would compromise and have 2 children as lap children and buy one extra seat for a carseat. The problem is I have never flown with babies, so I am really not sure what to do. Would it be ok if they were all lap children with 4 adults, should we pay for 1, 2 or 3 extra seats? WWYD?!?
Just wanted to also add, driving is not an option.

I don't have experience with 3 but we flew with DD at that age and didn't get her a seat. Maybe buy 1 extra seat so you can have a whole row and a little extra room?

With 4 adults, 3 lap children are doable.
Keep in mind though, that depending on the plane, there are restrictions as to where the lap children can sit.
If it's a big plane with 3 seats on each side - there can only be one lap child for each set of 3 seats (it has to do with the number of oxygen masks). On smaller planes, it varies by plane.

yes this important - i found callin the airline helpful in picking seats
we are travleing with the twins and my 2 year old to PA in a few weeks and my husband has to sit behind me because there is only ionext oxygen mask in each row and only on the right side of the plane
probably would work to sit 2 and 2 - and buy one extra seat - so one row you can have two kids (i kid extra) and one row you can have 1 kid (1 kid extra)

I flew back and forth between London and New York (often by myself) with my son as a lap child until he was 2. It only got hard towards the end. You should be fine with 4 adults and 3 as lap children for a 3 hour flight.
ETA: Feel free to FM me if you have any questions about what to pack in carryons, how to keep them busy, etc. I've had lots of experience!

Depends on the kid. There was no way mine would have made it for a 2 hour flight on a lap. He slept in the carseat. 700 is a lot.

I think it is doable without any extra seats. If you dh feels more comfortable only buy one seat. I flew with my son at that age and they were fine in my lap for a 5 hour flight.

paying all that extra money is crazy! its a 3 hr flight, its not that scary, Im telling you.. you can do it... if anything I would maybe buy one extra seat so you have the whole row. I never bring carseats but when you have the row you can put the baby on seat for nap ect... it is nice to have the whole row.
Again, it seems bigger than it is, the flight.. it will be over in no time!

Thank you all so much. And thank you for informing be about some airlines only having one lap child per row. I will definitely call the airlines and double check all this information. After we find out the airlines rules I think we will aim to have them all be lap children and if anything, just purchase 1 extra seat!
Thank you all again!
