Ankle pain and shin splints.
So I decided to run hills for the first time over the weekend. Did 7 miles running/walking.
The next day the sides of my ankles and up about an inch or two were really sore. I rested and then yesterday I did a 4 mile sloooow run.
Holy shin splints! I had to stop and get on the elliptical half way through because my shins were on fire and even now my ankles still have a dull pain.
I'm going to take a day or two off and see how I feel.
I'm wondering if it's just an after effect of the hill run? Any tips?

Just got new shoes a couple weeks ago. Same brand and model, just the newer version.

Ditto
A few years back I was getting shin splints and I went to a running store and they said to get a shoe with more cushion/shock protection. Typically, shin splints are cause because either the tread is run down or your shoes don't have enough shock absorption, as I was told.

Re: Ankle pain and shin splints.
My PT said that shin splints are often called by tight calves.
The hills can stress your calves, especially if you are not used it to it - I would focus on stretching your calves out.
