Highly unusual cat behavior...help!!!

A few of our cats sleep in our room with us. They come and go as they please when we leave/enter the room.

In the past week, two of them have started pounding on the bedroom door when they want to get in. They must be throwing their entire bodies against the door because it sounds like someone is using a jackhammer on it!

Anyway, at first, we would get up in the night, open the door, let them in, and it would be done. However, for the past two nights, they bang on the door, we get up to let them in, and as soon as one of us gets to the door, they have vanished. Once we get back in bed, they start at it again! They are literally playing games with us! Chat Icon

I don't want them hurting themselves! (And I also would like to sleep without being startled to death every night lol!) Does anyone have any suggestions?

I know the obvious answer is to leave the door open, but we have one cat who gets SUPER excited when he gets to come in the bedroom and pees. Chat Icon

It really does sound like they're playing a prank on you! Chat Icon I don't really have much of a suggestion unfortunately. The only thing I can think of is could you somehow keep them away from your bedroom door all together? I don't know how your home is set up, but maybe you could set up a gate or gates in the hallway to keep the cats away from the door? Or maybe keep them in a different room during the night? Hopefully they're just going through a weird phase and maybe will stop doing that.

Thanks for the suggestion! There isn't really a space to put up a gate or anything by our bedroom door, but we could put them in another room if it got really bad. They didn't do it last night, thank God! lol

another possible solution would be to lean a few pillows over the door so that when they bang their bodies into it, it doesn't make as big a sound (and they won't hurt themselves).
