Question- for those that diet and excerise
I am on a 1200 calorie a day diet- that should have me losing 2 lbs per week
so far- so good
but today I ran almost 4 miles- I burned 393 calories
when I entered that into my fitness pal- it wants me to eat more- 393 calories more
do I eat more? save it up for a treat or going out to dinner?
thanks!

Re: Question- for those that diet and excerise
Typically if I don't feel hungry or need to eat more I won't, BUT most days I do need a little extra when I do a hardcore workout, so I will half my burned calories (if I burned 400, I'll allow myself up to 200 extra that day). Make sense?

Re: Question- for those that diet and excerise
I use my fitness pal as well. It always tells me to eat any calories I burned during exercise to bring me back up to the 1200 calorie mark. Most of the time I do. HTH

Re: Question- for those that diet and excerise
I don't up my caloric intake for exercise days vs. rest days. I used to do that and it didn't make a difference. I am consistent with my macros each day with the exception of my higher carb day.

Re: Question- for those that diet and excerise
I usually do not eat back my points. I did however up my calories to 1500 b/c after researching I realized that with the intense workouts I started doing (Insanity) 1200 calories a day wasn't enough. If you don't eat enough your body will go into starvation mode and your will not lose weight b/c your body is trying to hold onto everything.

Re: Question- for those that diet and excerise
I don't track daily but I eat approx the same every day even when I work out a "normal" workout. With a more intense workout I will eat more but not calorie for calorie. Like for 3/4 miles, nothing extra. I ran 6.2 today and only had about 200 extra calories of nuts/granola right after. Yesterday I ran 18 miles so technically I should have eaten 3000 calories... I think I ate around 2000. If I feel weak or hungry I eat more. HTH.

Re: Question- for those that diet and excerise
I just stopped putting the running in my fitness pal
If I see the extra- then I want to eat the extra
yesterday I ran 2 times and had 1 extra snack
I can feel that I am skinnier- I hope the scale is a little less tomorrow

This is why I don't put my calories into an app! I also keep in mind that the calories on the treadmill or the app are usually not necessarily accurate and it helps me not overindulge and negate a workout!
