Did anyone skip the potty seat and just go right to the toilet for potty training?
I really don't want to use the potty seat that is completely separate from the toilet. I would rather use something to go on the actual toilet, or just the toilet if I could. Has anyone been successful this way? If so, how old was/is your DC?
Any tips pointers would be great! Thank you!

I haven't really been training consistently yet but I just got the seat that goes on the toilet. It's minnie mouse and I got it at target. She loves it and picked it out herself. She's used it a few times but I haven't been seriously training her just yet. I feel like the big toilet is too big for their little behinds but the seat is perfect.

Ditto this. Except I have a boy and so we got the Prince Lionheart one that goes on the toilet because it has a little pee guard in the front. My son has been using it since about 19 months with no issue.

My kids can sit on the regular toilet and we also use a cars potty seat that has a potty part, but the seat removes and sticks into the regular toilet seat. I hardly ever used the potty part

dd was always good at holding herself up on the toilet seat itself so i just bit the bullet and did it like that from the get go. she must've been 2.5 when we started. good stuff!

I just used the seat that goes on the toilet when I trained my DC. Now at 3.5 and 4.5 they just sit right on the toilet. So much easier!

Re: Did anyone skip the potty seat and just go right to the toilet for potty training?
Well I didn't use either one exclusively for potty training. The playroom is in the basement so for the playroom I had a small potty seat so they wouldn't have to go to another floor while playing. But the 1st and 2nd floors have bathrooms so no separate tiny potties. I do use a seat on the toilet only because my DD was tiny (25.5 months when we trained) and she would almost fall in. I only used the one in the basement so that there was a potty on each floor making it easier for them to want to go and able to go. Once she could hold it much longer and didn't wait until the last minute to go I got rid of the one in the playroom. I do also have a car potty because it is nothing like being out doing errands and having a child who has to go and having to find a potty fast. It takes zip lock bags and folds up tiny so easy to keep in the trunk.
I certainly don't think you need a potty if you have a toilet on each floor. I only had one in my basement because I felt that it would be easier for DD to want to go if it was convenient for her while she was playing. If you have a playroom on a main floor with a regular toilet then you certainly don't need one.
I had the girls use both so that when we did go out they wouldn't be uncomfortable going on the regular toilets. I don't bring a seat with me when we use a public toilet.

Re: Did anyone skip the potty seat and just go right to the toilet for potty training?
I did both from the beginning. Just kind of offered either one to them. My younger one prefers "the big potty". She really doesn't like to use the stand alone little potty, but I find it helpful to keep close by for those moments she has to go right away.
My older one didn't have a preference at first, but she has become a little addicted to watching tv while doing #2. It's her routine when she comes home from school. DH really wants her to stop using the little potty for #2, but she loves to just sit there for 30 minutes or more.

I trained DD on the toilet using the seat over it. I had no issues and she was potty trained by 2.4 or 2.5

Re: Did anyone skip the potty seat and just go right to the toilet for potty training?
We just used an insert for the toilet seat.
DS is tall, and we started training at around 3, when he showed interest. He always stood for peeing anyway so he could be like Daddy.
I did get a cushiony seat insert from One Step ahead, which he loved. I hung it on the hook next to the toilet. I always used a stepstool, the same one he stands on to wash hands.
At around 3 1/2, he learned to balance on his hands and the insert has been retired until his brother is ready.

Re: Did anyone skip the potty seat and just go right to the toilet for potty training?
My second DD asked to use the potty right before a bath and she went with no problem. She was 24 months old. She was fully day trained 6 days later and fully night trained at 25 months.

Yes, we transformed all our toilet seats to KOHLER TRANSITIONS our oldest was 2 and training was as easy as can be.

I just used the insert/ring for the regular seat. I got DS a stool. He used it to wash his hands too.

Re: Did anyone skip the potty seat and just go right to the toilet for potty training?
We went right to the regular toilet. DD is on the spectrum and gets into routines quickly. I knew if I started her on a potty seat it would be another adjustment moving to the regular toilet; so we never did a potty seat.

Same here. We did buy a separate training potty but he never really used it, and it's in the car now for emergencies.

never bought a separate potty seat. Just got the insert for the regular toilet seat and she still uses that. My mom has nothing on her toilet except the regular and DD uses that all the time with no problem.

I just bought a potty ring that goes on the toilet. DS used it for about a year and then one day randomly decided he was done using it.

Yes DD was 2y 7mo exactly when we potty trained her. I didn't want to deal with cleaning out a potty every time so we just did the potty ring that goes on the regular toilet. She got it right away, no accidents and i'm so glad I never bought a little potty.

Re: Did anyone skip the potty seat and just go right to the toilet for potty training?
We had the Baby Bjorn little potty and we also have an insert that goes over the toilet. DS went through phases where he only wanted to use one of those. Once he was potty trained, we stopped using the little potty. He still uses the insert when he poops.
