Does this sound like a reasonable amount of calories?
I'm trying a different approach and going to calorie count for a while. Which is not much diff. than weight watchers, but for some reason, the scale doesn't move for me. I figure i'll write down the calories i eat every day and be accountable that way (including fruit calories).
I workout 5 days/week, usually an hour each time. I either run 6 miles or so...or i take a class (body combat, body pump).
Each one hour session prob burns between 400-600 calories.
If i stay around 1400 calories /day, do you think that sounds healthy? I'll have one day where I have 2 cheat meals (saturdays) but i'll still watch overall calories on that day.
Just looking for some feedback! Thanks!

Re: Does this sound like a reasonable amount of calories?
I like to keep my calories at about 1200 a day. So if I burn 400 I would eat 1600. IMO I think you need to up your calories. If you are eating 1400 a day and burned 600 I would think that you would slow your metabolism down!

When estimating your caloric needs you should also take your height and weight into consideration...you will need more calories at 5'10 than 5'

Re: Does this sound like a reasonable amount of calories?
Thanks!!
The only thing is...I remember being told that you should NOT eat the same calories as you burn (a WW leader said that a while back)..to maybe give yourself like 2 activity points for an hour of intense workouts instead of 4 or 5...
I will try to stay around 1500 and see how that goes after the first week.somethings gotta give, right?? I am so frustrated all the time. I workout like crazy (actually enjoy the working out part!) and the scale really doesn't budge. I have a solid 15 to lose to be at a good weight.

Are you losing inches? you sound like a work out animal (I love it too) and surprised you having a hard time. Adding the right type of cals will boost your metabolism and or adding weights to your work out build muscle and your metabolism will increase also.

I have lost inches..I know that my clothes feel ok. And i know I've put on muscle since I started running 2 years ago...but I do have weight to lose. I am 155 pounds at 5'7", I am really happy and comfortable at 140-145. I know most of my problem is prob eating too much on the weekends. I take saturdays off to have what i want. It's usually not anything TOO insane, but i guess enough to keep me from losing. I've maintained this weight for a really long time. I just started trying new classes to switch it up a bit.
We go on vacation in 9 weeks and I would love to wear a bathing suit without feeling gross. I SHOULD look a lot leaner but i don't think i look that way...

Re: Does this sound like a reasonable amount of calories?
I was in a similar rut
I found I wasn't working out enough
and I wasn't eating the right foods
I went to 1200 calories a day- no bread, no pasta, no sugar, no dairy
I am NEVER hungry- unless I miss a meal b/c of work or something
upped my cardio
cut dairy- which I think was the turning point
and I lost 4 pounds (in the last 10 days) after not seeing much movement for a month
I also stopped cheating on sundays- I can cheat once I reach my goal

Re: Does this sound like a reasonable amount of calories?
I'd stop stressing over the workouts and start looking at the diet! What does a typical day look like for you?

I definitely know its diet. I know that like 75% of weight loss is diet...
This is a typical day-
1 egg on a high fiber english muffin , i slice of cheese.
OR
greek yogurt with 1/4 cup granola
banana as a snack
Lunch:
Turkey and 1 slice cheese on high fiber bread 1 serving baked potato chips or pretzels (i count them out, lol!)
Snack will be piece of fruit or a cheese stick (Wow i really like cheese..)
Dinner is either some kind of grilled chicken, green veggies and occasionally half a sweet potato. OR i'll make chili (90% lean meat , black beans, brown rice) and measure out 1 cup.
Dessert I'll make a cup of tea and have 2 small cookies with it or a WW ice cream bar.
SOME nights i end up having something else at the very end of the night. Popcorn or a few small things of candy. I know i need to stop grabbing extra stuff, i just find i'm hungry a lot!!

Re: Does this sound like a reasonable amount of calories?
Your meals don't seem super substantial which might be why you feel like you are grabbing extra things.
Rather than just a piece of fruit, I would try to have some protein with it. Also, one egg not so good. Have on egg and add two whites! Ditch the granola, oftren they are loaded with sugar. Put in a low fat.sugar cereal---even cheerios!
How much turkey are you having with lunch? Make sure it's enough! Also- where are your veggies during lunch--get those greens in!!
Also- I don't think of eating snacks rod esserts. I eat meals. they may be smaller than my regular lunch or dinner, but it is ameal. The second I think snack/dessert i eat junk.
I "snack or dessert" on a protein shake with berries or I made protein powder brownies that I love!

Re: Does this sound like a reasonable amount of calories?
Thank you for the replies!
I know my diet can be improved, but i never viewed it as that bad...
I will try adding egg whites and reducing cheese.
Also..I tried a 100 calorie pack of almonds and had a severe reaction...who knew i was allergic??? I was 2 seconds away from needing an epi pen!!

I think you can make better choices on snacks- I don't consider cookies or a ww ice cream to be "real food"
having sugar - makes you want more sugar- it's a chemical reaction
I think that's why you are so hungry
for snaks I have-
1/2 a protein bar- about 95 calories
what about carrots and hummus?
I actually eat 14 baby carrots- 1/4 of cucumber with hummus- and it's very filling
I would also cut the dairy- I can not believe the difference
My friend also cut dairy - along with a low carlorie diet and lost a ton of weight
I know as a diabetic- when I would eat cheese- which techincally has no carbs- my suagr would go up- so I decided to cut all dairy and now I take less meds, feel better and I lost 4lbs after I couldn't get the scale to move to a month

Thanks so much for the suggestions beth!!
I actually love hummus and veggies and never think to eat that...for whatever reason. Will pick some up today.
I know that cookies/ice cream aren't the healthiest, but I don't know if i can go all week with eliminating all that stuff. I feel like its a small indulgence (I seriously portion it and don't cheat). But i know what you're saying about sugar...
The thing with me too is that I prob eat too many foods with artificial sweetner. Yesterday I had a huge diet green tea and 2 diet sodas and then a light yogurt. I know too much of that stuff isn't good...it can trick your body into thinking its getting sugar when it isn't.
Going to pick up some stuff and go from there. Thanks everyone!
