Too far to travel?
I know this is a personal decision but DH and my choice is to have DS in pre school. Thing is, he is only lacking in speech. He is not on the spectrum but he gets EI therapy : special ed, OT and speech. WE live in RVC and the schools if her were to go to them are at least 45 minute bus rides away. He is 2.5, I do not feel comfortable with putting him on a bus for that long and do want him going full days. If our school district can arrange something in one of there own schools would you prefer that. I just feel he is too young? Anyone feel differently? I mean I do not want to deprive him but why do these schools have to be so far away?

Re: Too far to travel?
DS will be almost 3 when he starts school in september. While the school is only 15 minutes from our house, depending on the routing, he possiblly could be on the bus for 30-45 minutes. I think he'll like it and find it exciting (while I am certain it will be traumatic for ME). I think you should weigh the benefit of your child attending school v. being on the bus.

Re: Too far to travel?
My DS started going on the bus before he was 2.5. I worried about it a lot. He was only going for a half day program, but I work FT and was not able to bring him there and back. He got picked up and dropped off at daycare.
I worried for nothing, he LOVED riding on the bus and being at school made a huge difference for him. I know it's a tough choice, but for us, it was completely worth it. Believe me when I tell you - take EVERYTHING EI will offer you. The data shows that kids can make tremendous progress before the age of 3 with EI.

Re: Too far to travel?
DS is on the bus for 30 minutes. Always loved it but he likes riding in the car.
He was 3 yo when he started taking the bus.

Re: Too far to travel?
We bus our son from Port Jeff to Huntington strictly because it was the right program for him. He doesn't mind it at all and it's a 45-minute commute in the morning. An hour home in the afternoon, but he almost always naps.
