6 weeks, no I wouldn't, UNLESS as the pp described I had a boat with a nice cabin where when moving I could sit with the NB.
15 months I have no issues. DS has been going on our boat and my BILs boat since probably that age, and this summer I am sure we will take our 2nd DS out.

I guess I am in the minority.
I would have brought DS on a boat right away.
We brought him out Memorial Day weekend to the air show at Jones Beach. He loved it. He was 4 mons.
I am one of those parents that took my DS out right away where ever
I don't think you can compare bringing a baby to the beach with bringing it out on a boat.
Standing on solid land is quite different than standing on a moving object on the water.
eta, no i wouldn't bring a 6 week old on a boat, for a number of reasons.

Our children have been on our 30 foot boat boat since a few months old... Life vests are ALWAYS on land and sea...
We are avid boaters, out every chance we can get and there is no way they weren't going...

Yes I would...and I have...both of my children have been on boats at only a few weeks.
We have a boat that is big enough for our travel swing, so if we were staying on the boat, she stayed in the for the most part...but they have been on the beach as well.

Besides from the safety issue regarding the baby's head, I would also consider comfort- rocking, wind, heat, etc.
A lot of people love to flaunt all the places they schlepped their newborns or preface things with "personal choice/ personal comfort level" but IMO sometimes it's just selfish to drag a baby around. There will be years ahead of you filled with experiences and IMO skipping a lot of activities you're used to is a sacrifice you should make the first few months of motherhood. (I mean " you" in general, not the OP here just asking a question).

Depends on the kind of boat. I brought my son at 5 weeks old, but my dad has this 50+ foot deal that rides smoothly and has a lot of enclosures so it's not in the open air, and doesn't bump even when it goes fast. I wouldn't do it on a very bumpy speed boat (he has that too - I only let my son on it when he was 3) - and certainly no kind of sail boat - I wouldn't do that with any kid unless he was old enough to swim....

I dragged my DS everywhere at age 2 weeks and up. For me, it wasn't flaunting, and it wasn't selfish. I have 2 older stepkids who also had a life and a schedule and needed us to go places with them. It was either they don't get to go if DH was working, or shlep my newborn around to all these different places.
It is what it is. every family has it's own needs and it's own reason for doing things.

This is not true. The coast guard recommends waiting until 18 pounds but there is no law...
I think 6 weeks is young...I got my dd out there last year when she was about 3 months and I worried a lot. We took her over Memorial Day Weekend...she is 15 months and was great and loved it.

no, id trust the driver of my boat, but not the other boats out there. Maybe just canaling to get out of the house, but not in the open bay. Not worth the risk IMO.

That's correct- according to the new York state coast guard any child under 12 is allowed on a boat as long as they are wearing a coast guard approved flotation device. For children they are sized " under 30 pounds" and " 30-50 pounds" which is why it is recommended not to put a child under 18 pounds in one because the floatations device will not likely fit a child smaller. I am interested in those that brought smaller babies on boats which flotation device they used. My 9 month year old is on the smaller side and loves the boat- actually screams in joy-- but I hate how the life jacket fits her.

We bought 2. THe first one did not fit DS very good. My SIL bought a 2nd one at BJs and it fits much better. DS is 5 months and I think on the smaller side. I do not know which one it is but I can check when I get home.

You all need to get over it. I'm not it's called saying what I think. Considering there's 25 responses of "NOOO WAY!!" it's pretty safe to get over the fact that most people think it's a terrible idea. Just because I added my thoughts instead of just a loud resounding, "NO" doesn't make me an anything. I think it's irresponsible to drag newborns all around. Sorry, it's called my opinion. Don't share it if you don't like it!  And yes, I always read posts on here where ladies say where and how young their NBs were when they went wherever and yes it's usually in a major proud way, which always baffled me.
