Re: Elderly Relative Being Taken Advantage of By Doctor..
I also wanted to add, as someone who does work in the health care field, that it is generally helpful to have the one who is in charge of your Aunt's affairs, deal with this.
I know you mean well, but I see it happen constantly where "well-meaning" family members cause drama and problems to occur, because they get involved with things that really only the main advocate for the person should be involved in.
Perhaps sit down as a family and discuss the concerns, but let the person in charge act upon them.
I can tell you that we don't share anything with certain family members who are not listed as part of their plan of care because of HIPAA reasons.
Not trying to give you a hard time, but some of the other posters have brought up valid points.

Re: Elderly Relative Being Taken Advantage of By Doctor..
Thanks and I don't see your post as giving me a hard time.. I asked for advice and that is what you gave me :)
My aunt (the patient's power of attorney) is going to the acupuncturist tomorrow to get to the bottom of things.

Re: Elderly Relative Being Taken Advantage of By Doctor..
Okay, this whole this is bizarre. $2000 per week??!! I went to an excellent acupuncturist and she charged $100 per hour. No insurance and she preferred cash, but would have given a receipt if asked. If I How many times per week is she seeing this guy? How much does he charge per hour???

Re: UPDATE: Elderly Relative Being Taken Advantage of By Doctor..
How can it possibly be legal for them to refuse to give receipts? I know some people don't agree, but at this point I WOULD threaten to report them.
I guess your family needs to decide if they want to intervene in her financial affairs and limit what she can spend, or just let her spend her money how she wants. Either she is very well off, or she'll be broke in a hot minute.

I can't see how any legitimate business could operate, cash only, without giving receipts. I would call the IRS and report them.

Re: UPDATE: Elderly Relative Being Taken Advantage of By Doctor..
As per your update what is going on there is unconscionable.
I hope someone, whether it's you or the POA, pulls out every stop that can be pulled. Report them to every agency with any jurisdiction. I would also get the media involved.
I hope someone can step in and fast. She is spending 6 figures a year on medicine. Unless she is a Rockefeller she is going to lose everything.
I'm sure you are doing all you can, and I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this.

UPDATE: Elderly Relative Being Taken Advantage of By Doctor..
I used to take fertility herbs from my acupuncturist and they were $50 per week, all imported from China and I had like 10 little baggies per day, so a lot for one week.
They also only accepted cash or checks BUT they gave me a receipt every single time. 2k is ridiculous and I feel so bad for your Aunt!

I am glad to hear this.
I haven't posted on this thread as I didn't feel I could offer any different input than what's already been said, but have been following it and I'm glad you're getting them checked out.
I think it's definitely strange that they refuse to give your aunt some kind of receipt for the herbs she's purchasing.
You are right to feel something isn't copacetic.

I would tell Dorothy Wong that unless she issues receipts this will happen. The IRS loves this stuff.
I bet if this is uncovered there will be other not so kosher things going on.

This Gina Beana is completely fabricating and attempting to defame Dr. Chi Wai Wong. He's been my acupuncturist for 10 years and has served this community well for over 30 years in addition to receiving international awards. He has always given me receipts and only charges $65.00 per treatment, which is the cheapest around town. Although his english may not be clear, he is an amazing practictioner and has a kind heart. Perhaps GinaBeana should have a conversation with him to sort out the matter directly and stop spreading lies about this kind soul! I have notified Dr. Wong about this forum as it's a true shame to see the badmouthing and disrespect that has been presented without premise.

Yes, because we are going to doubt the word of someone who has been a member since 2008 over someone who created a name just to address this one issue

Re: Hmmmmmm
And as for you, Pat, I originally wrote my post asking the kind members of this forum what their opinion was as to a situation happening with a member of my family. There was no fabricating of anything ACCORDING TO WHAT WAS TOLD TO ME. My great-aunt has been spending thousands of dollars since March on this man. He is selling her very expensive herbs as well. She is an 85 year old woman that is taking other medications prescribed by medical doctors - how does he know that these herbs won't interact with her meds? The whole situation denying her of receipts is questionable. I understand that he is your acupuncturist and you feel the need to defend him,and that is honorable, but this is not about you or him or even me. It is about my aunt. I did not post anything derogatory about the dr on any medical website that potential patients could see. His reputation is not on the line. He is not being defamed.
As for my removing my original post.. yes, I did at the request of my aunt, because apparently, the dr spoke to my aunt, told her he no longer wants to have her as a patient and he said something not-so-nice about her family. So yes, I did remove the post but not because what I wrote was untrue.

Perhaps you should have kept it up. Seems like a blessing in disguise if the doctor doesn't want to treat your aunt anymore. At least she won't be scammed out of her money anymore.
