Testing Before Missed Period

I was wondering about your experiences with taking pregnancy tests before missing your period. We just started TTC and I am not expecting my period until next Wednesday. I am wondering how accurate a pregnancy test taken before your missed period is and whether it is really worth taking one? I bought a box with two First Response tests that say they can detect pregnancy 6 days before. I'm thinking about taking one tonight but I don't want to if it's basically pointless.

Thanks in advance!

usually the rule of thumb is closer to AF the better chances seeing a +, but I've seen ladies on here get faint + 9 & 10dpo and stronger ones on 12dpo.

Personally for me, I wouldn't take a test any sooner than 12 dpo just to rule out a false negative.

best of luck on your ttc journey, may it be a short one Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Many women do get positives sooner, but I started testing at 10DPO and didn't get a BFP until the day after my missed period. I even tested that day before my period was due, and it was still negative.

Re: Testing Before Missed Period

My first pregnancy I did get one 6 days before AF but you should at least wait and use FMU, probably nothing would show up now. I know more people who got BFN's testing early and as it's kind of depressing it's not necessarily worth it. But if you just want to try, then go for it, you could get good early results!

Good luck!

wait til 2 days before your period. it will be pretty accurate by then (assuming you have a "normal" length LP). good luck!

Re: Testing Before Missed Period

With my DD I had a very faint BFP on a FRER with FMU at 10DPO.

With this pregnancy, I got my BFP at 11DPO at 10pm using a cheapie Internet test. Followed right up with a FRER and got an instant, dark BFP.

It's not really how many days before your missed period as much as how many days past ovulation you are. The earliest you can test positive is about 9dpo. For some people this could be 5 days before your missed period. For others it might only be 2 days.

Re: Testing Before Missed Period

well, this can vary for every woman. Basically I don't think you can get a positive HPT for 5-7 days after implantation if I remember correctly, so it all depends on when that occurs. My positive HPT was on 12dpo.

I personally would not because what if you get a positive, then it turns out to be a chemical pregnancy which happens TONS of times based on ppl I know--including myself.

I'd wait until at least a missed period, if not a week after that...

Re: Testing Before Missed Period

Ultimately I did start testing before. I never got a BFP until the afternoon my period was due (14 dpo) and even then it was so faint I could barely see it. It was much darker the next day (15 dpo) and the day after that (16 dpo) I got a BFP on a digital.
