When do we NEED to stop swaddling?
DD is 11 weeks old and rolled back to front for the first time yesterday. My SIL told me that once they start rolling you cannot swaddle them anymore. So we went unswaddled last night and it was a disaster! DD must have woke up once an hour, sometimes twice and she was terrible to put to bed from the start which is normally never an issue. Do I really need to stop swaddling once she rolls over? I was trying to research and I cannot really find anything that says that. I see people saying they swaddled till their LO was nearing a year old and they are obviously rolling at that point. What is everyone else doing?

Re: When do we NEED to stop swaddling?
wow 11 weeks! I wouldnt swaddle her if she cant life her head/upper body on her own. My daughter rolls to her stomach every night, but shes 5 months and can lift her head. It would make me nervous if she was facedown in the mattress so I probably wouldn't swaddle.

She can lift her head up really well. Also, I am a really light sleeper. Once I hear her start to move around I wake up and look in her bassinet to make sure she is ok. I am pretty sure if she rolled on her stomach she would start to cry because she isn't a huge fan of being on it for a while.

Re: When do we NEED to stop swaddling?
Once they roll over they shouldn't really be swaddled because that could make it hard for them to get their head in a good position to breathe (since they don't have the use of their arms or legs!).
Going from swaddled sleep to no swaddle is hard, but she should figure out how to sleep unswaddled in a few days.
Good luck!

Re: When do we NEED to stop swaddling?
My DS loved being swaddled. While nursing or getting a bottle to go to sleep he would keep himself up by rubbing his eyes or moving his arms around. We tried not swaddling him but he would wake up so easily. Our ped said it was fine to keep doing it even though he could roll over because he was strong enough to lift his head up. Finally at around 9 months he kept bursting out of it so we weaned him off by swaddling him with his arms out and then a few days later we stopped swaddling completely.

I swaddled them until they were 6 months. Then they started to sleep on their belly so they broke through.
