HELP calming a inconsolabel gassy newborn
this is the second time DD has just burst into screams that are uncontrollable and nothing we do helps. The first time she just exhausted herself and fell asleep. I felt so helpless and DH and I were just at a loss. My friend came to rescue us cause as she said her kids never screamed like that and she was concerned. Gas is coming out but its not often. and man do they stink. That was Sunday and here we are again.
we tried Gripe water. on the belly rubbing the back football hold rubbing belly and walking. Bicycles. She just screams I didnt know at 8 weeks that this could start.
HELP I need your suggestions.....

You might want to post on the parenting board, but have you tried the little tummies has drops? We loved on that with DS for quite a few months and it worked wonders.

Re: HELP calming a inconsolabel gassy newborn
I'm so sorry you're going through this. We had to watch a video at the hospital called the period of PURPLE crying to explain that basically, sometimes it just happens.
Here is some information on that:
http://www.purplecrying.info/
Since you mention that it seems to be gas-related, have you tried altering your feeding methods? Are you BF or FF? Could it be a dairy intolerance?
The baby's digestive system matures and changes over the first few months, with a big change usually coming between 6 & 8 weeks (you usually see some major poop changes around then, as well as a growth spurt and extra feedings).
It's really tough. Most newborns have a "witching hour" (for us, it was around 4 pm to 11 pm) where they just need to be held, held upright, fed, and walked around in order to stay at all calm. Some people swear by the swing. We always put DD down to sleep in the rock n play because it was angled to try to relieve any gas pains. I tried not to shake bottles, but when I did, I'd put a drop or two of gas drops into the bottle then swish it to get rid of the bubbles before I fed her. We switched around 11-12 weeks to Dr. Brown's bottles and found a big improvement in her burps/gas.
Definitely call the ped's office and see if they want you to switch to a dairy-free diet for a week or two and see if it helps (it takes up to 2 weeks of changing formula or going completely dairy-free to see results, though, so it won't be an immediate solution either way).
Just keep loving her and know you're doing everything you can! It's so hard, if not impossible, to see your baby cry. But it won't last forever!!! You're doing a great job, mamma!!! Keep cuddling her tight!

How do you feed her? FF or BF?
It could be tummy issues - have you tried the mylocin(sp?) gas drops?

Re: HELP calming a inconsolabel gassy newborn
my dd#1 was like this every day until we figured out she had acid reflux bad and put her on meds......and dd#2 was also like sporadically until we realized she had acid reflux too but it was silent reflux so hence why it took us longer to catch on but she was put on meds too along with giving both of them mylicon for the gas issues sometimes with dd#2 she would just scream for absolutely not reason, on meds and on the mylicon and the doctor basically said that she could be have touch of colic......look up acid reflux and its symptoms and see if your baby fits any of them.....both of my girls fit almost all of them hence why i called the doctor and brought them in for a visit....good luck

Thank you. Im BF and i thought it was the formula that I had supplemented with the other day but she didnt get any today. I am going to try to cut out the dairy too. I am latose intolerant and thought that if I have Lactaid milk or take the pills it would be ok for her too. It also happens around her bedtime I notice now she did it twice. Ahh if they could only come out talking!!

Re: HELP calming a inconsolabel gassy newborn
With my daughter, my pediatrician suggested believe it or not--camomile tea. He said just brew up a bag and add a tiny bit of sugar and put it in her bottle. (Obviously wait until it cools down.)
It totally worked and was natural. But of course, as always, do your own research about this before giving to your child.
