Unexplained fever?

About 4 1/2 weeks ago I developed a fever. Lasted about 4 or 5 days. This was 10 days after I had DS. The fever went from 100-103.5. Went to my OB, he sent me for a CT scan that came back normal. He did cultures and I had a vaginal bacterial infection. However, he believed my fever was due to engorgement from breast feeding. I decided to stop BF'ing and as soon as I stopped and the engorgement went away, so did my fever. Fast forward to last night, I all of a sudden got cold in bed. Freezing! Thought it was due to it being chilly out and the windows open. This morning I wast cold but had slight body aches so I just took ibuprofen. Came home tonight from shopping and decided to take my temp. It's 100.7 now. No other symptoms. No cold, no cough, nothing. This seems to be just like last time. Do you think this could be related to last time. I was going to go I the urgent care but DH said there is nothing they can do. My kids have a dr appt tomorrow. Their Ped is an immediate care place. I was going to ask her if something was going around. Is there a fever virus going around for adults? What do you think? TIA!

Re: Unexplained fever?

Sounds like the symptoms of Mastitis.

I was checked for mastitis 4 weeks ago when this happened and it wasn't that. But I haven't breast fed in 4 1/2 weeks and I'm not engorged or anything. There doesn't seem to be any milk left in me. So I dont think it's that :/

Unexplained fever?

The only time this happened to me I had lyme disease. All of a sudden, I started getting fevers of 102. I would take advil or tylenol, they would go away, I would feel fine. When the advil or tylenol would wear off, the fever would come bacj, and I would feel like crap. I went to first med, and they couldn't diagnose me. ran every test they could think of and said if it doesn't stop, go to the ER. (this was after 2 full days of a high fever without any other symptoms.) By the next morning, my fever was 105 and I went to the hospital. at first they though i had meningitis, but then a hive showed up, and within a few hours the hive turned into a bulls eye rash classic for lyme. Don't let an unexplained fever go too long. It's definitely a sign that something is wrong or infected somewhere, and you need to find out.

ETA--I did have mastitis once. I had a fever 7 days after delivering, but I had symptoms of mastitis as well. red patchy hot boobs, very engorged. They called in a prescription and I was fine. However, at my 6 week check up, they also found some retained placenta. I don't think it was related to my fever, but sometime if you have retained products of conception (i think that is the technical term they use), you can get a fever. Did they do an internal US to see if everything was out?

Feel better!

Thanks! I have my 6 week check up tomorrow so I am going to mention it to my OB. If I get another fever today, I going to go to the urgent care. They didn't do an US but I had an internal exam and cultures. I'm going to talk to him tomorrow and if I get no answers, I'll make an appt with my PCP.

It may also be your hormones still going haywire. What did your OB say? Just curious, hope everything's ok!

This is what my OB said. If I get another fever and it goes over 101, we'll do more tests. But he said I still have milk in me and its most likely my hormones.

That happened to me with both of my LOs. I think everything settled down between 2-3 mos after.
