Very gassy newborn?
DS 2 is almost a month old and is EBF. Since he's been home he's been very gassy but not where he is crying in pain. He is always grunting, poops ALOT and is always passing gas. He sounds like a grown man! I'm not sure if I should be worried since he doesn't seem to be in pain. I dont think he has any of the symptoms of a dairy allergy/sensitivity. Any thoughts?

Very gassy newborn?
Em was the same way when she was little, as long as they aren't crying in pain it is pretty common. we were part BF part FF. there was no sure-fire thing that cured it for us, just time. at right around 3.5-4m she just grew out of it (she was a preemie - i hear they usually grow out of it closer to 3m). em never cried, but she was always very squirmy and gassy. remember, their stomachs are growing a lot during this time. i tried changing formulas but it only made things worse - so since you are EBF you might want to try changing your diet but overall they really aren't in pain, its just a new feeling for them. my ped kept assuring me she would grow out of it - and as hard as it is to watch sometimes, they do grow out of it. you can try gas drops - for us they worked occasionally but not that often. good luck!!

Re: Very gassy newborn?
my dd is 10 weeks. she has been grunting a lot too since she was a few weeks old. Most of the grunting starts around 5 am and she just grunts in her sleep. She never is crying in pain though. She has her fare share of passing gas during the day lol, but never cries in pain. I guess its just normal.

Re: Very gassy newborn?
We're going through the same thing. DS 2 is EBF and at 6 weeks is getting much better at handling gas. It's not what you eat but rather their immature digestive system that causes the discomfort.
