I just had laproscopic surgery yesterday, pain killer advice??

Sorry for posting here but i am really looking for a recommendation before i call my doctor.

Percocet doesn't agree with me. It zaps the pain but i get a headache and feel like a zombie on it.

I tried just 4 regular advil and it did nothing! I can't believe it.

What are good painkillers with little side effects?? I had a fallopian tube removed along with a d&c so i'm feeling pain everywhere

TIA!!

I didn't even think to do that only because the full dose JUST about knocks out the pain.

The side they removed my tube hurts the most. I guess its normal, but it sucks! I am going to call teh doctor and explain the situation.Sigh..

Re: I just had laproscopic surgery yesterday, pain killer advice??

I had a hard time with the percocet also (I had the same surgery 2 months ago). A half dosage really helped take the edge off because I felt really nauseous when I took it. When I told my doctor about it at my follow-up, she said I should have told them because they could have switched it. I would call the doctor and ask if they recommend trying a half dosage or switching it up.

On a good note, I really didn't need the painkillers for that long. A few days and I was able to stretch it a little longer between dosages. It was hard for me to move the first few days, but it will get better!

I had that a similiar procedure two months ago. Maybe Vicodine will help or Tylenol Codine? I had the reverse effect, Vicodine & Tylenol triggers my asthma so they gave me Percoset.

I would ask about an perscription anti inflammitory. When I had laproscopic surgery I was perscribed a painkiller and an antiinflamitory & the antiinflamitory was more useful.

I was told to alternate them, so maybe if you can do something like that, you can get away with less of the Percoset.

this is good to know! Im sorry you went through the same thing...it really truly sucks. I made a call to the obgyn, i'll see what they recommend and i may just try that half dose...i too had nausea from the percocet, ugh. It could have been effects of anesthesia too...when I woke up i was so nauseous and groggy!! SO weird.

Did they give you any anti-nauseau medicine? Sometimes combining narcotics and anti-emetics enhances the effect of the medication. This way maybe you can take a smaller dose of pain meds?

After my lapro surgery for gallbladder- I would take 1/2 a percocet with 2 motrin.
The nurse said that was fine to do.
It really helped- without the narcotic loopy feeling.
Feel better!

Re: I just had laproscopic surgery yesterday, pain killer advice??

you could ask them to switch you to vicodin. the active ingredient is different (hydrocodone) somewhat, percocet is oxycodone. sometimes vicodin is better tolerated. both have tylenol in them as well, so just make sure you are not taking tylenol on top of everything else. take them with food to help lessen the effects.

I don't know, she said motrin or advil were ok because they are ant-inflammatories which can really help with the procedure i had.

I do feel a bit better since posting. I hope the pain gets better and better, i feel like i've been hit by a truck.

I am so sorry... I hope you feel better!

I had lap surgery and not only did the percocet not help my pain, it made me vomit and I was just really loopy on it. I took one and after getting violently ill, I slept for 18 hours straight it hit me that hard. I wound up not taking anything but motrin after that but maybe you should try half a percocet with motrin if you are in a lot of pain.

Percocet does not agree with me either. I just used 800mg of motrin/advil.

Re: I just had laproscopic surgery yesterday, pain killer advice??

I had major surgery on my ear several years back which included a skin graft. I was in severe pain afterwards and since my ear canal was swelled up, I had vertigo and nausea. Percocet and Vicodin made it much worse.

They gave me a prescription Motrin and it really helped relieve the pain. There are also suppositories that they can give you to help with any nausea post-op.

I hope you feel better soon!

it depends on who you talk to. some orthopedics feel motrin delays healing, but that is a new thought. realistically, motrin/advil are fine to take

actually percocet is oxycodone and Tylenol.

oxycodone doesn't have the tylenol in it.

I can take oxycodone, but i get sick from percocets.

basically if you're looking for narcotic strength pain meds, you've got percocet, oxycodone, vicodin or the weakest of the lot, tylenol with codeine.

non-narcotic, but works like one is ultracet (generic trammadol)

then you're into anti-inflamatory meds like aleve (naprosyn or naproxyn) and ibuprofen.

the orthopedists may be talking about surgery involving bone growth. spinal fusion surgery, a doc will tell you no NSAIDs for 12 weeks. Its because NSAIDs inhibit bone growth and the entire idea behind the fusion is for the bone to grow solid between the 2 vertebrae. i've had 2 spinal fusions, and was restricted after both of them.
