Dh staying at hospital overnight
Just curious if this happens? I told my mom I wanted dh to stay and she told me that she didn't think that people did that but she had her last baby 21 years ago so things have changed.
I am delivering at LIJ in New Hyde Park the new women's center and I looked on the website but it didnt mention it. Did anyone have their baby there and their dh stay overnight or have asked when they went on the hospital tour?

Re: Dh staying at hospital overnight
LIJ will allow your DH to stay. Mine stayed until about 1am and then would go home. It was fine; we were ok during the night without him and he'd go home and check on the dogs; and pick up the last minute things we needed since DH came early!

St Charles allows your DH to be there 10am to 10pm. Honestly, I was ok with that. By the time he left I was exhausted and passed out cold right after he left. It was good for him to go home, get a good night sleep too and recharge. Not sure what other hospitals allow though.

Dh staying at hospital overnight
I had dd at stonybrook and dh stayed with me every night I was there. There was a chair that opened up next to my bed. In the delivery room there was couch that DH could sleep on as well.

Re: Dh staying at hospital overnight
Winthrop allows them to stay if you are in a private room. I'm planning on having DH stay again, but this time we are delivering at Manhasset. It was really really really nice to have him there. He would pick her up when she started to fuss so I could breastfeed and since I was super sore it was nice not to have to get up and down.

Re: Dh staying at hospital overnight
I had a private room but DH didn't stay and I really didn't want him to. He would have had to sleep on a chair or crappy pull out and wouldn't have gotten a good night sleep. He went home, got some rest and came back as soon as he was up and showered in the am. I didn't see the need to make him suffer with me in the hospital, especially since DD was in the NICU.

Dh staying at hospital overnight
Yep LIJ let's your DH stay if you want. They have a pull out couch for him to sleep on in both rooms you are in. Your labor room and recovery room. Both are private.

Re: Dh staying at hospital overnight
Good to know. I have never been a patient in a hospital before and I just think that it will be comforting to have dh there with me. This will be our first child so it is not like he has to leave to take care of another child then I would say not important.
Plus when he was in the hospital I stayed the night before his surgery in a freezing atrium because guests could not stay overnight and I wanted to be there for him as much as possible. So its his turn :)

Dh staying at hospital overnight
I don't know if Good Sam lets them stay, but I put DS in the nursery so DH would leave late and then come back early. Not sure how it will work for us this time around since we have a 2.5yr old at home.

Re: Dh staying at hospital overnight
I'm delivering at a different hospital, but husbands are encouraged to stay overnight. It helps them bond more with the baby. Plus, I'll have the baby in my room overnight so it will help if he can get up to bring the baby to me when he's crying, needs to be fed/changed, etc.

Re: Dh staying at hospital overnight
i am delivering at LIJ new hyde park also...and already did the hospital tour. the rooms are great and they have a chair that pulls into a bed (its narrow but it will do the trick). DH is allowed to spend the night if you want him to. i believe they also said normal visiting hours are noon - 8pm, however DH can come anytime he wants i dont think i am going to have DH spend the night...but that may change once the baby comes

Re: Dh staying at hospital overnight
DH did not stay over any of the nights. we both needed the best sleep possible and we have a dog and cat which he needed to fed.
this time, definately not since we have a 2.5 year old.
i didn't want him to be uncomfortable.
I delivered at Winthrop and it was allowed if you were in a private room (I was)

Same. I had a CS with my first, so I knew DH was going to be well-rested to take charge when we got home so I could recover.
Keep in mind that if he stays, he will not get the best sleep because nurses will be coming into your room frequently thru the night to check your vitals and bring you the baby to feed if you are BF and keeping the baby in the nursery.
