if you have child health plus for your kids....
which health plan did you choose and why?? a friend is trying to apply and does not know which plan to choose. Thanks

United Healthcare CHP is not accepted by Stony Brook hospital or any of it's doctors, so if your friend lives around there, I would opt for something else.

We chose Fidelis...
Our son's pediatrician was a participating member and the cost was also a factor.

I would suggest your friend call her child's doctors with the ones she is interested in. I have seen signs in several doctors offices lately saying they don't take child health plus or other insurance carriers. This way might help her pick based on what her doctors take.

exactly this. We ended up choosing empire bcbs. the women on the phone went over how to fill out the application. make sure she checks it over and over again because any errors will cause a delay. I unintentionally left off my birthday and they needed my birth certificate. also she has to fig out how much she will have to pay and send it in with her application. it worked out very well for dd when we were in between health coverage.

blue cross blue shield because that is what the ped takes...Honestly never thought to check what the hospitals take ugh

It a health ins. through the state that is based on your income.

We couldn't afford the $600+ extra it was to put our DD on either of our plans through work and this was 100's of dollars cheaper and better insurance to be honest.
if approved there are a few providers you can choose from.

We use Empire Blue Corss Blue Shield. I have never had a problem, they pay everything and there are no copays.

Empire BCBS. Love it. So far no issues. They pay for everything, no copays and my ped accepts them.

Empire is not going to be an option any longer. I just got a letter that Empire members are being switched to another company called Healthplus Amerigroup.
Anyone know about Amerigroup?
