Torticollis?
Does anyone have any experience with this? What type of doctor did you take your LO to see? How was it treated? Was treatment successful? I'm worried about DD. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Torticollis?
DS was just diagnosed as having mild torticollis. I contacted Early Intervention to see if he qualifies for services (someone is coming to our house next week). If he does not qualify I plan on going through our insurance and having him work with a pediatric PT.

Re: Torticollis?
My DD had it, she couldn't turn her head to the left. We did physical therapy for months and it was fixed. The place we went to was great, the therapist was very nice and patient. we would also do the exercises at home too.
Metro Physical Therapy We went to the Manhasset/Great Neck Location.

Re: Torticollis?
my DS was diagnosed with torticollis at 3 months. I was stupid and didn't do anything about it until 6 months when he wasn't rolling yet. He was approved for services through EI. he had PT twice a week. huge improvement! by 9 months he was rolling and crawling and standing on his own. but he didnt walk until 15 months. if you don't get it treated when theyre young it can cause other gross motor delays.
some exercises you can do from home:
- LOTS of tummy time! you can't do too much - try talking to her on the side she's having trouble turning too. and hold toys on that side as well - feed her from the bad side. if shes on a bottle, hold her on the side that will force her to turn her head to the side thats tight. - when watching tv place her so shes forced to turn the other way - when shes sleeping manually move her head to the other side. you won't wake her.
With PT Torticollis will go away. if left untreated the muscle can get very tight which may require surgery later. while it's not anything severe...it shouldn't be put off. FM if you have any questions. GL!

Re: Torticollis?
DS just went for his first visit with Kelly at Bellmore physical therapy. She was great and he loved her! She will also teach you stretches and positions for home too. HTH

Re: Torticollis?
PED will have to diagnose first. Or that's how DD was diagnosed. Then we applied for EI but she didn't qualify, so we ended up getting private PT in the area, insurance approved some of it. But DD had a very mild case so she only ended up needing 5 -6 sessions.

DS was also treated for torticollis by Kelly from Bellmore PT.. she is the best! She is so good with the babies, I recommend her highly if you need to see a child's PT!!

Re: Torticollis?
My daughter had a mild case of torticollis. Please take this very seriously. I brought her to a pt who said after she could hold her head up it would go away. He said we didn't need to come back after a few visits. (This was at six weeks old) He never even took her out of her car seat to stretch her just massaged the muscle. Well nine months later despite me brining it up at every ped visit she developed facial assemtries and plagiocephaly. It was so hard to fix at nine months. ( her cheek is still a little off and still has a flat spot on head) I went through hell with this. Make sure you see a pediatric therapist who is very knowledgeable about torticollis. A good one will show you stretches and give you hand outs. I used Kelly Settani when my daughter was nine months she was very good. I also brought my daughter to a chiro which really helped. She didn't qualify for EI because she was meeting her mile stones. I just would not want anyone to go through what I went through. The earlier the better. Feel free to FM any questions.

Re: Torticollis?
my nephew was diagnosed with this and he was treated by an orthopedist with physical therapy. After a few months he is so much better. The PT place was in Ronkonkoma and the doctor was in West Islip. I can get the names from my sister later if you are interested.
