Speech Delay: Are tubes the answer? Milk allergy??
My son is 2.5 and has a moderate speech delay. He goes to speech therapy once a week. I brought him to an ENT for an evaluation and it came back that he has fluid in one ear and some hearing loss in the ear with the fluid. The doctor then suggested tubes for both ears. I signed up for the surgery but I am still doing some research about the effectiveness of tubes. Does anyone have any experience with getting tubes and the improvement of a speech delay? The doctor warned me that the tubes is not a cure all for the speech delay.
My son also had a severe milk allergy when he was a baby. He had to go on Elecare He is back on regular milk but now I am coming up with websites talking about milk allergies and speech delays. Maybe he has a milk sensitivity which is causing the fluid in his ears? Any thought or experiences with this one?? Thank you!!

for my cousin, a switch to rice milk was the answer...it was absolutely amazing! It was like the milk was blocking him (I believe he was drinking soy milk at the time)

thanks for answering! I was doing some reserach about the tubes and then I came across the issue of fluid and the milk allergy. I don't know?? Maybe I can eliminate the cow's milk for a week and see if there is a change!

DD did not need tubes but my niece did. She was speaking but had issues with articulation. She was not hearing the words correctly due to the fluid in her ears. Once the tubes were placed there was an immediate difference.

my DD my NT child had tubes, but it was because of ear infections (11 months old she got tubes) her speech was delayed because she couldnt hear from the time she was 6 months old until she got her tubes.
DS my ASD child never had issues with his ears, but i can tell you Rice Milk has done wonders for him.

Re: Speech Delay: Are tubes the answer? Milk allergy??
A friends daughter was totally deaf due to fluid in her ears. No one really realized until she was almost a year old. he started with speech and learned sign language. Then she had tubes put in and she was able to hear again...
My son always had fluid in his ears and had multiple ear infections from 22 months until 3 years old. No tubes. He started speech at 21 months old and he picked it up pretty fast after that. His hearing never seemed to be an issue.. Except when it came time for him to do something he didn't want to do!!! LOL He also had a milk protein allergy.. But a lot of my friends kids have that with no speech issues///
