No carbs - unsuccessful ?
Has anyone ever tried a no carb diet and not been successful ? I've tried it a log time ago and just tried it again recently. I lost a few pounds in the first few days but now it's all back. I haven't eaten differently at all. It's very frustrating.

Re: No carbs - unsuccessful ?
I've generally been very successful on low carb diets. The few stalls I experienced were mostly do to hidden carbs that I didn't realize I was ingesting. I track calories too - I don't necessarily limit my cals too much but I find it helps to be aware. Sometimes it's really easy to overdo it on the calories end when doing low carb and for some ppl that matters. a food scale is also helpful for this. i know for atkins it is recommended to consume about 6 oz of protein per serving which is actually not an enormous serving so there is some acknowledgement there that calories do still count. i track everything on my fitness pal which is great but they do not track fiber so I have to do that separately which is annoying! Good luck and hang in there. The results do come!

I've never been good at no carbs. I'm not big into the all or nothing approach (which I feel is very characteristic of no carb). I recently cut down on two things: carbs and sodium. I still have have carbs but I cut it out of one meal. I lost weight much quicker this way.

Personally, I take this approach. I have never tried no carbs, and I don't think it would work for me (because of how I like to cook, eat, etc.). I do try to limit them -- if I eat a sandwich for lunch, I usually don't have a starch with dinner, for example. I'll just do veggie sides. But I wouldn't like to cut carbs out altogether.
That said - I know a lot of friends who have been successful with the no carb approach. But most of them said the weight comes right back on when they start eating carbs again. So I think it's not good as a short-term "diet." If you plan to adopt a no-carb or very carb-restricted diet for the rest of your life, then I think you'd get good results that you could maintain.

No carbs - unsuccessful ?
i've tried no carbs. lost a few lbs, had miserable headaches, developed bad breath, and then i re-gained it all back plus a bit more as soon as i ate a carrot.
i refuse to eliminate carbs... especially now, that i'm running. i need the carbs.
i have, on the other end of the spectrum, eliminated almost all animal products and i'm loving it. it's easier than i thought, it's cheaper, and i've lost about 20lbs!

Re: No carbs - unsuccessful ?
Yes and I am successful but I have fruit and veggies. I find I stay full so much longer and have less cravings!

Re: No carbs - unsuccessful ?
I've never been able to stick with a no carb diet - it makes me very lightheaded, headaches, lethargic, and then I binge....
However, I switched to a clean eating lifestyle and I lost 10 lbs within the first 2 weeks and I haven't gained any of it back in over 2 1/2 months. No working out...literally just clean eating.

Re: No carbs - unsuccessful ?
The only way I could do this and have any chance at sustaining it was tracking calories, fat, carbs and protein. I have a spreadsheet I fill out, use myfitnesspal.com to get the figures.
I used calculators and information online to come up with these daily goals for weight loss:
Calories - 1700 Fat - 44 to 62 grams Carbs - 150 or less Protein - 100 grams or more
Exercise goes along with that and I always have better results when I'm getting a couple of days of exercise in each week.
My carbs are mostly whole grain breads, fruit, natural sugar.

Re: No carbs - unsuccessful ?
I am against diets that eliminate any foods/nutrients. I find carbohydrate cycling works better for most people than eliminating carbohydrates.

When I was younger, the no carb diet was easier. Now, I follow a low carb diet. I find the results to be great and it makes things more manageable.
