Cystic Fibrosis
My obgyn called me today to let me know I am a carrier for CF. I got this blood work done 4 weeks ago- did anyone else take so long to get results? DH is going today to get tested. I am sick to my stomach over this as I had 2 very good family friends pass away from CF so it hits close to home.
Has anyone else tested positive as a carrier for CF? Is there anything I should ask? Any info I need to find out?

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
a friend of mine was a carrier, but her bf tested negative.
If your DH is negative, then there's no issues at all. Don't even stress about it until you get the test results from DH.

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
I am a carrier as well. I found out with DS#1. DH, thankfully, is not a carrier. It did not take 4 weeks to get results. It took about a week. Then, DH had to be tested and that week was torturous waiting for the results.
It's easy to say not to worry about it, but I could not think of anything else. But, even if your DH is a carrier there is a 50/50 chance your child will not have CF and just be a carrier or not inherit the gene at all.
DS inherited the gene so he is a carrier and that is something that we will educate him about when the time comes. I was thankful that I knew DH was not a carrier because when they did his newborn screening it came up positive for CF gene and he had to get the sweat test even though we knew he tested positive because he inherited the gene from me. They have to be a certain size to have the test done, so we had to wait until he was a month old to actually do the test. That would have been torture as well.
If you have any specific questions, please feel free to send me a msg.

I agree with the other posters, if DH is not a carrier, you are in the clear.

Yeah if DH is negative, we are in the clear. He went today and was tested- they said results in a week. Which makes me even angrier that they waited four weeks to tell me!

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
I am a CF carrier as well. I know how unsettling that phone call is! Much easier said than done, I know, but try not to worry yet. Your DH is most likely NOT a carrier. But even if he is, when both parents are carriers, there is a 50% chance their child will be a carrier, a 25% chance their child will be unaffected, and a 25% chance their child will have CF. Many prayers that your DH is not a carrier, and that you get his results quickly!
