If you had a rough transition from RNP to crib...
How did you ultimately accomplish the transition? My DD has been sleeping in the rock n play for 12 weeks. She HATES being flat on her back in her crib. She could be contently sleeping and then as soon as I put her on her back in her crib she starts flailing her legs and wakes herself up. She also HATES to be swaddled and kicked herself hysterically out of every swaddle I put her in, even the Miracle Blanket.
Up to this point every now and then I've tried to get her to sleep in her crib and it has never worked - she always wakes up crying shortly after being put in there. It has been at least a month since my last try though.
I have 10 days left of maternity leave and I thought now might be the time to make the transition because I imagine it will come along with some rough nights that will be harder to get through once I'm back to work. Any advice?

If you had a rough transition from RNP to crib...
Have you tried a crib wedge, so she's not flat on her back?

Re: If you had a rough transition from RNP to crib...
We have had DS in the RNP for 6 months now because of this exact same reaction...
We just started putting him to sleep in the bed with us. We DO NOT go to sleep with him, I just lay with him till he falls asleep in my bed. Which, to our pleasant surprise, he has. This is the first time I have been able to get him asleep flat on his back.
I have done this a few times to get him used to it, and now he does better napping in the crib. I figure it is a good place to start, although I may just be creating a new bad habit...

Have you tried CIO. We had a tough few tries until finally my DH said just let him cry. And sure enough it worked.

Re: If you had a rough transition from RNP to crib...
We just did the transition with DS at 4.5mo. I am against CIO so I did the same thing we did with DD. I did what we normally do at bedtime except put him in the crib instead of the RnP. I'm bad and used to put him down sleeping, so I did that. He woke up crying 10 minutes later so I got him back to sleep and put him down again.
He woke up a bunch more times that night but I just kept going in and putting him back to sleep and returning him to his crib. I was amazed that he already "got it" by the second night. He only woke up twice to eat (at 11 and 2) and went right back to sleep. Now I can even put him down "sleepy but not sleeping" as they recommend and he goes to sleep.
Good luck!

with both of my kids, I used a projector to get them to sleep in the rock and play. when I transferred them to the portacrib first and then to their actual crib, I moved the projector. it was something familiar. I also rolled a towel under the head of the mattress and gradually lowered the incline til they were flat. I also use a sleep sac so they feel cuddled but not swaddled.

If you had a rough transition from RNP to crib...
I tried so many things. Crib wedge, swaddling, sleep sheep, keeping my hand on her chest to soothe her, just naps... But DD fought the transition and just slept so well in her rnp that it took until she was 6 months to get her to sleep in her crib. Ultimately I had to let her cry it out. She cried harder and longer than she's ever cried and I almost gave in again, but when she finally fell asleep she made it the rest of the night in her crib and woke up smiling. Since then she's been sleeping in her crib at night.

I like these RNP questions, because I've been trying to narrow it down between RNP, bassinet, PNP, or just the crib and people are having trouble with transitioning from RNP to crib.
I have no clue which to use?

I had the same issues and as a result my DD slept in the RNP until she was 6 months old. I left her until she was no longer sleeping comfortably. That is the only way I could manage CIO...it had to be better for her. I believe you can start at 12 weeks, I couldn't have done it though. But more power to you if you can.
Also, I don't know how emotional you are about returning to work but it might be a difficult time to make a change like that if you are already upset.
Good luck!

Re: If you had a rough transition from RNP to crib...
Try putting a box or some books at the top end under the crib mattress and roll some A and A blankets to shove under her to snuggle her a bit more.

this is what we did also. we out the pack and play in our room. but now that he was sick last week and slept in RNP cause of his cold, we are back to worse than square 1.
