Torticollis?
My son is 7 months and has been receiving PT for torticollis since he was 2 months old. He has full range of motion now and can turn his head all the way both ways, and he can roll over both ways and can sit pretty well now unsupported. His head was very flat from sleeping on the one side but that resolved itself months ago. The thing that's concerning me now is that his tilt is very persistent and doesn't seem to be going away. The muscle feels nice and loose now though so I don't know if he is tilting just out of habit. At times, in the past two weeks, the tilt has looked worse than it has in months. Plus now he is starting to resist when I stretch him :( I am getting very frustrated and concerned- can anyone share any experience/advice? Thanks :)

Torticollis?
I have 20M old twins that were both born with it. One more serious then the other. It does take quite a bit of time. My son still has a tilt jsut not as obvious as it was. You didnt mention how often you get P/T We are in early intervention & we get therapy 3x week. She is always stretching him. I have also been told if child gets sick he/she will get lazy & the tilit will fall back to the way it was. Hang in there but it's a LONG PROCESS.

Torticollis?
As your DC gets older he will be able to start to hold head up more. If you didn't call EI yet, you should get an evalution because torticollis can effect the whole body. Whatever side he favors can effect everything all the way down to walking.

Re: Torticollis?
Thanks- has been a long process! he is getting PT once per week. He didn't qualify for the EI before because they couldn't demonstrate enough motor delays, but I had him reevaluated and he will be starting 2x a week through EI.

Re: Torticollis?
Is your DC starting to do new things (ie sit independently, crawl, etc) You will usually see a "set back" during those times. If your DC has full range of motion right now it may be more of a weakness issue. Is your DC still receiving physical therapy?

Re: Torticollis?
Yes, he is starting to sit up independently and pull himself up to sitting. The PT also thinks it's a weakness issue with the unaffected side, but when I try to do the strengthening exercises he is "lazy" and won't use the weak muscle

Re: Torticollis?
DD is almost 2 years old and still regresses sometimes - usually before she gets sick. When she was younger it would happen when she was teething or when she was busy learning a new skill like standing or walking. Maybe that's it?

Re: Torticollis?
I took my daughter to a pediatric chiro and she was straight after the first visit. FM if you have any questions. I really believe in my daughters case that something happened during the delivery and she just needed to be realigned. After dealing with neuros PT's Ortho's I think the chiro is the one that fixed her.

Torticollis?
Hi, my name is Dr. Glassman and I am chiropractor that specializes in pediatrics. Sometimes torticollis does resolve, meaning full range of motion has returned. The skull flattening may be resolved as well however there may be asymmetry in the skull when comparing it side to side. It is very common if the flattening corrected itself. I would be more than happy to talk with you if you are interested. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] with any questions. Good luck. Here is my website: greatneckfamilywellness.com. If you do not live close to me, I would try to find someone close to you. Good luck!

Re: Torticollis?
My son had torticollis, which was diagnosed at a few weeks old. We did PT for a few months and it got MUCH better. He was in EI for 6 months too because the torticollis affected his physical development (he didn't roll over until 9 months and sit until around 8 months) but he phased out of EI and now he's doing well. No one would ever know he had torticollis BUT when he gets sick i DO notice that the tilt comes back. I heard it's normal and it doesn't bother me. You can't tell otherwise and it's no longer affecting his development

Torticollis?
Thanks everyone! I will just keep at the exercises and stretches and hopefully he's just reverting a bit because of a big growth spurt. I have noticed that the tilt started getting worse again after he started sitting unsupported. I think he has weakness in his torso too that is reinforcing the tilt. My PT wants me to see an orthopedist now bc he's leaning a bit while sitting and wants to rule out scoliosis :(
