Hi ladies, can you recommend the best type of bottle/nipples to use if you are going to be breast feeding as well as using a bottle?? There are so many options that its overwhelming.

Re: Best bottles to use while breast feeding
We use Dr.Brown's bottles with a slow flow nipple. You can also even buy preemie nipples as well. I was told not to introduce the bottle until 4 weeks but it was either get someone to take a feeding at 2 weeks or I was throwing in the breastfeeding towel. My son took a bottle at 2 weeks and breastfeeds like a champ. I don't think it's necessary to wait if you need to do it sooner.

Best bottles to use while breast feeding
Thanks for the advise, a friend just had a baby and she said she tried a bottle after 2 weeks but her daughter wouldn't take it, so now she is having a hard time doing anything bc her DD gives the father a fit when trying to give her a bottle. So she wishes she introduced the bottle right away. Guess time will tell right.

Crashing... I don't think there is a "best". I never used Dr. Brown's b/c there are too many pieces, but I know lots of moms like them. My DS1 used Avent w/ no prob. DS2 hated ALL bottles. We tried a million of them. Eventually he used Nuks of all things. No advise about when to offer... I introduced bottles at about the same time. Who knows?

I introduced bottles at 3 weeks. I gave her the medela bottle that came with the pump. Nothing special. She took to it like a champ. I was lucky

Re: Best bottles to use while breast feeding
everybody's different. dd is fine with born free, we never switched up from level 1 nipples (my nipples dont open wider, why should the bottle's?) we switched ds to comotomo because we suspected that he has nipple preference. turns out he may just be really gassy and hate the position i nurse him in.

Best bottles to use while breast feeding
There is a new brand of bottles at BBB that has been getting awesome reviews called Boob by Joovy. I almost registered for them. But I couldn't get past the fact that they said the word "boob" on them!! haha I went with the Avent Natural which is very similar... and they have the different nipples for the different ages. I also heard Tommy Tippy is another good one but some have had problems with leaking.

Best bottles to use while breast feeding
All babies are different Dd got a bottle at week 1 bc I wasn't making enough milk I needed to supplement. She took the madela bottles with no problems and switched between breast and bottle with no problem. When she started daycare I got a few different bottles and she did best with playtex ventaire.

Re: Best bottles to use while breast feeding a
I just had twins and had to start supplementing right away since they were on the bigger side and my supply just wasn't keeping up with their demand. I bought a couple Dr. Brown wide neck bottles and Joovy "Boob" bottles which are specifically made for BF babies. They took well to both, but I'm going to continue with the Joovys. Less pieces and I like them better overall. I used Dr. Brown's with my oldest DS and he did well with them... Never had any nipple confusion and I nursed until he was 13mo. I introduced bottles from day one with him too due to latch issues. It was never a problem and didn't affect BFing.

I intended to use regular old glass nursers but DS didn't seem to take to them. I then thought the medela ones would work. Nope. Finally, he took to Tommy Tippee.
We also never changed the nipples. He took the bottle for about a year and we kept the same flow. I think that helped in doing both bottles and boob.

Re: Best bottles to use while breast feeding
two things helped me narrow it down: 1) I didn't want any bottles made in China and 2) I want to try glass bottles (was worried about heating plastic bottles even if they say they're bpa free, I get nervous w/ all that stuff!)
So, based on that criteria, Avent and Dr. Brown's both fit the bill (Avent is made in England, Dr. B's in the US). Dr. B's might be better though b/c they have silicone sleeves for their glass bottles (just imagining our LO throwing his or her bottle around, so hopefully those prevent breakage!). Good luck w/ choosing!! It's overwhelming and at the end of the day it will depend on whether your LO likes one brand bottle over another (which is why I registered for both Avent & Dr. B's!).

Re: Best bottles to use while breast feeding
I registered for Tommy Tippee bottles bc I heard they were closest to a breast and people had good experiences with them.... I'm surprised no ones really recommending them now I'm second guessing myself

I was all set to go for them based on reviews, but I saw they were made in China when I checked the packaging in the store. People seem to love them though! So anyone without China hang ups (like me!) should be fine

I bought the Avent Naturals and the Playtex Vent Air. Hoping I won't need to supplement until after I go back to work.
