Potty Training Help - holding in pee

DD is 26 months. We introduced a potty to her a few months ago just to get her acquainted. She seemed very interested and even went on the potty a few times. Then she quickly lost interest and was adamant about not sitting on it. I left it alone and figured I'd wait to see if she showed signs of readiness and then try again.

Fast forward to now. She has been waking up every morning with dry diapers and I can tell she has control over her bladder. Plus, she has a diaper rash infection that the pediatrician gave me a cream for and he suggested trying to keep the diaper off as much as possible. I figured I might as well try the potty again while I was at it.

This morning she woke up around 9am with a slightly wet diaper. I took it off and left her naked from the waist down with a potty in the room. She sat on it for the most of the morning. Even ate her lunch on the potty. Never peed!! She kept asking for a diaper so I knew she had to go. I put a pull up on around 1 for her nap. She woke up dry almost 3 hours later. So basically she was going on 7 hours without going to the bathroom. I put her right back on the potty after her nap and she sat for half an hour without going.

Finally I gave in bc we had to be somewhere and put a pull up on. She ended up peeing the car ride over to my grandmothers house and soaked thru her dress and car seat. I can't believe she was holding it like that. I feel so bad now

Am I pushing her too soon? Or should I keep with it and eventually she will do it on the potty? I'm so torn bc it really upsets me to see her holding it in so long.

I don't think you are pushing her, but I think if they show any resistance its better to just take a step back. 26 months is still pretty young.

My opinion on the whole potty training thing is when they are ready, they are ready. One day it just "clicked" with my DD and that was it. She never had an accident since.
But they have to be ready...physically and emotionally... and then it just happens.
I wouldn't push it.

My dd was holding in her pee for hours like urs. She was in so much pain that the minute i put the diaper on she let go n i couldnt believe how much pee there was. I called the dr n he told me to not rush her n that she was not ready. I had to reprogram her n a month later it clicked. I used food coloring nit worked like a charm. She doesnt have accidents either. Everyone always says when they r ready it will click n now i believe it.
