South Nassau or Mercy opinions
Hi...
I delivered my first child at LIJ (aka the baby factory). My daughter spent some time in the NICU because of my fever and it really was top notch regarding care.
Due to a host of things, it looks like I will deliver at South Nassau or Mercy this time around.
Anyone have opinions? My DH has been to SN for outpatient surgery and I really liked it for that.

Re: South Nassau or Mercy opinions
I delivered DS at south nassau and will deliver this one there as well. I have only great things to say about everything. Having a private room was so nice. The nurses were great, I really can't think of even one bad thing to say about my experience.

This. I delivered there last week and have nothing but amazing things to say about S. Nassau. From the parking, private rooms, nurses, and food options it made giving birth a great experience.
I'll def go there for my next.

Re: South Nassau or Mercy opinions
I had children at both and have nothing bad to say about either place. However, when I had my twins at 29.5 weeks they had to be in the NICU. Mercy's NICU is a higher level if that matters in your decision. They saved my babies' lives and I will forever be grateful to the Mercy NICU nurses.

Re: South Nassau or Mercy opinions
I had my first at Mercy and it was pretty good but that was a lot of years ago. I would definitely consider Mercy over South Nassau mainly due to the NICU. I just delivered my DD almost 3 weeks ago and she was preterm (35 weeks) and was in the NICU for 9 days. If I had her at South Nassau they probably would have transferred her to Winthrop which would have driven me crazy being apart from her for that long since they don't move the mommies.

Re: South Nassau or Mercy opinions
I delivered at South Nassau and loved every minute of it. I was admitted during my pregnancy to Mercy, It was crazy during the time I was there (I guess that can happen anywhere) But it was nuts did not like my care. The NICU is a higher unit at Mercy. But I have known many babies and my nephew that was in the NICU at South and also loved it there. They are able to keep most babies there. They only transfer the ones that require a higher level of care. If you are able to decide later in your pregnancy I would. If all seems to be going well and you dont expect any complications then I would go with South. If complications with the baby in advance seem to come up then I would consider Mercy. You can also take a tour of both hospitals and see what you like better.

I had my son at 30w and he would have stayed at South Nassau had he not developed a life threatening infection in his intestines. He was transferred to Cohens at LIJ in case they needed pediatric surgeons.
The NICU at South Nassau was very nice and the nurses were wonderful. They keep babies there as long as they are over 2 lbs and have no other serious complications.
I plan to deliver at South Nassau again. Best of luck!!
