If I am doing CIO do I give DD the pacifier? She sleeps good during naps but at night is up every hour for the pacifier. We are feeding her twice a night. My dr said shes at a good enough weight and shouldn't be getting up so much. Im so tired I just put the pacifier in. Is it time to CIO? HELPChat Icon

You can try CIO. My DS never had a paci so I can't help but I just let him cry. There are still days he has bad nights. Last night was one of them and he's almost 2.

I didn't sleep for more than 4-5 hrs a night until my DS was much older. You can't always force them to sleep even with CIO.

Personally I think its too young. At that age they are crying for a reason. Have you tried a wubbanub? They help keep the paci in the mouth.

I was just in the same position with ds at the same age. I took the paci away. It took 3 nights. He didn't even really cry. He would fuss then try to put himself to sleep for a while and then fuss again. He finally fell asleep after 2 hours, second night 30 min 3rd night 2 min.

I just gave him the paci back to help fall asleep but he no longer wakes at night for it.

Bump for morning group. If I give the pacifier does it negate the CIO.? Not sure if I should give it or not. She's not hungry because she's eating twice during the night. She just fusses and I can't sleep. Help

If you are constantly going in to replace the paci then yes it negates the CIO since she is not learning to self soothe and you aren't really letting her CIO.

5 months is not too early as far as the baby but we as parents have to be ready also and you have to have the will power to hear your DD cry and not give in and go in.

IMO paci are not great at night cause they will wake everytime it falls out and at 5 months they cannot find it and put it back in so you will never win with the paci battle.

we did CIO when DD was 5 months too - we had the exact same situation so we knew it was CIO time
we stopped going in to give her the paci - instead we had a few (probably 4 plus a wubbanub) in her crib and she was able to get them into her mouth on her own
after 3 nights of CIO she sttn
best thing we ever did
it is very tough, but hang in there

edit - i just re-read your post. if she is still eating twice during the night you need to wean her from those feedings before CIO. trying to drop 2 feedings at the same time will be tough and is unfair. cut it back to one feeding then eliminate the other

How do you know when to feed and when to just give the paci? What times is she waking? I would try working on some night weaning first before going full on CIO because it could get confusing as to when she's waking for food versus looking for the paci.
