Pumping laws
Are there any laws pertaining to how many lactation rooms there should be? I work for a very large company, I came back from maternity leave last month. We have one lactation room for the whole building, that is one room for 9 floors of people. It is always booked, I reserve times, but there is always days that I can't get in there three time Because it's full. The day I came back I asked HR about an additional room. She said she would see what she can do, well it's been a month, and now there aren't any afternoon hours that I can get in there. Is there anything I can do? It's super frustrating. I know I am not the only one who has complained.

Re: Pumping laws
Not sure about the amount of rooms, but if I were you I would continue making LOTS of noise about the issue! They can't ignore things like that these days, so if you make sure to stay on HR's radar all the time they will have no choice but to help you somehow!

Re: Pumping laws
I doubt there's anything specific about number of rooms, but it addresses meeting an individual's needs. If your individual needs arent being met, than they need to accomodate you somehow. Keep letting them know! You dont want your supply to go down at the fault of your company not doing their job!

Re: Pumping laws
Oh I am making a stink every chance I get. Right now I am pumping in our "art room" which is fine for what it is, but not the most ideal place. I don't want them to become lazy and think that this is an okay place, because it's not. It's dirty, and people are cutting and gluing in here.

I am sure there are other women who find that one room is not enough. Try to get few other moms who use the room to send an email or go to HR and request a second room.

We dont even have a lactation room. Never heard of this before. Are they supposed to provide you with a room specifically for that? I know a girl here was using an empty office! I agree with the ladies def take it up with HR again.

I would talk to the other moms and see if they are having the same problem and send an email to HR ccing all other 8 moms. My current location had about 400 employees. 2 of us use the room now and 3 more in a couple of months. I am a calendar nazi. If I see that I may lose my times I will be in immediate contact with HR to rectify the situation. Good luck.

Re: Pumping laws
unfortunately i do not think the law states how many rooms a company should have. my company is in the midst of construction so our one lactation room was closed and i was told to lock my door and pump in my office.
the one thing the law states is that the "room" cannot be a bathroom. so as long as they are giving you a private place to pump i am not certain there is much you could do.
i would not drop it though - speak to whoever makes this schedule and tell them that people are not sticking to it. get other moms to complain wiht you and hopefully they will come up with a schedule that everyone follows. when my company did have the room to use, HR held the key so you had to go there to get it and return it in a certain time frame.

Re: Pumping laws
My husband's co-workers have to share the pumping room. I believe they figured out a way to still have personal privacy but more than one person can use the room at a time.
