Can I just vent of how PO'd I am!!! I was just pumping and the girl that comes after me knocked, I said "One minute" she then put in the code and opened the door. I've been fighting with HR about this room since I came back and this is the last straw. The time was 12:22, I had the room reserved until 12:30. I am going to send her an email, but I don't know how to word it, I am also going to write to HR. What would you say?

I would be livid if that happened to me.
I would not send an email to the other girl, just speak with HR and have them deal with her.
Next time I would put up a sign on the door that "the room is in use until 12:30"

She kind of backed out quickly and when I cleaned up quickly, she wasn't outside the door anymore, so I couldn't confront her. There is a sign on the outside that says "In Use" I have no idea why she thought this was okay. I am furious and it's one of the many little issues that I am having with the lactation room at this job.

Agreed. This is the way to handle it.

Also, if someone knocks on the door DON"T be shy about saying, LOUDLY "Someone is in here".

Make sure there is no ambiguity that someone is in the room.

I am writing an email to HR requesting they change the code and only give it to the nursing mothers. In September we had an issue with people eating lunch in there, I complained, they supposedly stopped it. The issue is I don't know if this was the next girl or if it was someone looking to take a nap. There is a paper stating who is in the room at the allotted times outside the door, along with the sign that says "in use", so there was no reason to open that door.

Ugh, so obnoxious! I feel your pain, I have to pump in a room with no lock on the door, just a paper sign that says someone is pumping. I've been walked in on numerous times, mostly accidentally becuase people don't notice the stupid sign. Chat Icon

Once I had a woman start to open the door, so I loudly said "I'm in here pumping!" to which she responded "Ok, I just have to grab something (supplies are kept in this room, along with people's coats/bags). I'll get you something to cover up with". I was so caught off guard that I actually let her come in and get the dumb supply that she could have totally waited 5-10 mins for.

Yeah, I need to complain about this too. Definitely notify HR.

OMG I'd be furious!! It's a private matter, some people just don't understand. I ended up having to cut my session short, which is stressful in itself because I am under so much pressure to get milk. I wrote to HR and she wrote an email to the director of facilities. I am lucky we have a designated room, but there are well over 10 people pumping, they need another room

Can you put a sign on the door "in use"?

I think you should go to HR not directly with her

There was a sign!!! I did go to HR, they are changing the code to the room and hopefully it wasn't another nursing mother. I'd understand if she had to get in there, but for her to just walk in, and when I came out, there wasn't anyone waiting, which leads me to believe that maybe it wasn't another nursing mother, I like to think that another would understand that this is important andI need every minute I can get in there
