Need some inspiration for Thanksgiving Dessert

I am the dessert person. I usually make a from scratch pumpkin, apple and jack daniels pecan pie and then try out some over the top complicated Bon Appetite cake from their Thanksgiving issue. But nothing in this month really sparked my interest. Anyone have a a dessert recipe that is totally from scratch, pretty to look at and yummy to eat?

I always make a chocolate cream pie with fresh whip cream to serve with it. SO delicious. I cheat and use a pre made graham cracker crust but you can certainly make your own if you want to. I'll post the link that I use. It's delicious and the fresh whipped cream makes it even better!

For our Halloween party we did mini caramel apple trifles. It was layers of vanilla pudding, caramel sauce, spice cake, and apple pie filling topped with whipped cream in mini plastic shooters from Party City.

Since it was for a work party and I made about 7 different desserts, I cheated and used the spice cake box mix, but we made the apple pie filling and the caramel sauce from scratch.

Everyone RAVED over them. And if you don't feel like doing the mini shooters (they are a pain to transport so I assembled them AT work) you can always just do a full trifle.

ETA: I think they used granola in that pic, but I just pulled it off of google images since I don't have a picture of mine.

ETA: Ooh! It's not a holiday themed dessert, but we made this for my mother's birthday this weekend and it was amazing.

It's three layers of chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream in between the layers and on top. You use an angled spatula to get it really smooth and pop the cake in the fridge to firm up for a few minutes. Then you pour chocolate ganache over the whole thing. It was a little messy to make but it looked so beautiful and it was amazingly delicious. It tastes just like a chocolate covered strawberry. My DH ate 3 slices in one sitting he loved it so much! lol!

I can look up the recipes if you are interested, but I will say my Thanksgiving desserts are usually more rustic than pretty to look at! (Apple crisps, chocolate pecan pie, etc.).

I do a pumpkin vanilla bourbon tart (Cooking Light recipe) that everyone loves, even non-pumpkin eaters!

I've done holiday flavored cheesecakes (I have a good Bailey's flavored cheesecake recipe).

I've also done pumpkin flavored whoopie pies with a cream filling (I think I used an old recipe from Rachael Ray's magazine).

I am thinking I may try a trifle this year as a different option instead of just pies/tarts... they make for a pretty presentation. I know a lot of trifle recipes call for premade cake and pudding mixes, but there are some you can make entirely from scratch.

Re: Need some inspiration for Thanksgiving Dessert

Normally I do an assortment of homemade chocolates.

However, this year I am making a Turkey Cake....I think the kids will get a kick out of it.
