Mothers that had a short cervix
I would just like to know what the dr did to help with this and if it helped you to carry to full term. I had my 20 week scan today and was told my cervix was a little short and that they have to check again next week and take it from there

My sister in law had this with three of her pregnancies. She had a cerclage put in. She was able to carry all pregnancies to full term

Mothers that had a short cervix
Thanks ladies. I needed to hear some positive news that a baby can be born healthy. Some of the stuff I googled just scared the crap out of me. Right now I'm out of work so I just plan on laying in bed and hope that my appt next week brings positive news

Re: Mothers that had a short cervix
Bed rest and endomethacin and Procardia. I was 26.5 weeks so too far along at my hospital for cerclage. And it wasn't a weak cervix, it was baby pressure. It went back up to 40 in 3 days with bed rest and endo then I went back on the endo on weekends only until about 31 weeks.
It depends on how short it was. Below 30 is usually considered short. I think I was 27-29 when they put me on rest.

Good luck! STAY in bed. Even sitting up is too much pressure. How short was it. Did they give you meds or mention a cerclage?
I made it from 26-36 weeks with twins. It fluctuated from 40 down to 25 towards the end. They stopped checking at 34 wks.

Re: Mothers that had a short cervix
Keep in mind that I had twins, so that may have been a factor.
My cervix started to shorten at 16 weeks.
We tried 1 week of progesterone supps and modified bedrest, which didn't help.
At 17 weeks I had a cerclage and was on strict bedrest.
I had weekly progesterone injections and sonos to monitor my cervical length.
At 24 weeks, I was having contractions 5 mins apart that I wasn't feeling. I spent a week on hospital bedrest, magnesium sulfate. I was sent home on VERY strict bedrest and procardia (only allowed out of bed to pee and take a 5 min shower).
My water broke at 31w6d and I delivered via c-section.
My boys were born healthy, just preemies with normal preemie issues. At that gestational age the breathe/suck/swallow reflex isn't developed yet so they needed some extra help to learn to eat.
They're now almost 2 1/2.

Re: Mothers that had a short cervix
First of all, don't freak out. Just listen to your doctors.
At 25 weeks I was put on bed rest. I think my cervix was then measuring 2.5. Drink LOTS of water and keep your feet up. Sometimes I put a pillow under my butt to lift my pelvis too.
I was taken off of bed rest at 36 weeks and at 38 weeks my very healthy baby made his debut. Hang in there. It's very stressful but listen to your docs, take it easy and drink water.

Mothers that had a short cervix
The dr didn't mention how short it was but when I was looking at the screen I saw a measurement of 2.7. He didn't mention any meds yet but we asked what can be done and he said bed rest and possibly a stitch. I'm going to a high risk dr next week to get measured again and then were supposed to talk about what to do. I just decided for my own sanity to go on bed rest this week as I wait. This past weekend we traveled to NJ (2 1/2 hours each direction) and then there was a lot of standing the rest of the weekend, could that have effected it?

I don't think that could have caused it but I would avoid doing anything like that for a while, possibly the rest of your pregnancy.
If you do need to take a long trip I would lay your seat totally flat in the car. And no standing!

Re: Mothers that had a short cervix
Mine was short. They just monitored it and told me to stay off my feet. So I'd go to work (where I put my feet up under my desk) and then I'd go home and lay down. I wasn't allowed to clean or anything. There was talk of doing a cerclage, but luckily the bedrest helped and it wasn't necessary.
