Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
DD is 11 months and we are just finally weaning her off Zantac. We tried around 6-7 months and the backfired.
As long as she was on Zantac, she was fine.

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
DS is 10 weeks and we are slooooowly seeing some improvement in his painful gas.
Gas drops and probiotics are our friends.

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
I would say around 6/7 months the gas was better and the spilt up was pretty much gone (he was a happy spitter).

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
My son had severe reflux and some gas. He is 4 and he still has reflux flare ups, but he came off his meds at 20 months. He was down to one dose between 15-20 months. I used mylicon for his gas. In every bottle and in between. I have been using Gripe water for over a year now for his gas and what not!

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
My son had both. At around 6-7 months, he was much better naturally. He was on Zantac for about 6 week at 3-4 months or so, and it did absolutely nothing. For his gas, we did a lot of bicycling of his legs, tummy massages, and mylicon drops.

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
Thank you all for your responses. I have DS who is 4 weeks old on .7ml of Zantac 3 times daily and just started him on gerber soothe drops yesterday, he's also on elecare. All this and he's still vomiting frequently and screaming in pain. I'm now taking him to a GI to make sure there's nothing else we can bed doing.

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
do you know that your LO has a milk protein allergy?
elecare (and alimentim) is SO thin which only makes reflux worse.
if there is no need for a broken down formula, I would talk to your ped about switching off of it, it will only exacerbate reflux. DD was on alimentum until 5/6 months and we switched her to Enfamil AR (much thicker) and she was a different baby. We were then able to move her to regular Enfamil by 8/9 months!

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
well... dd had reflux... but she also had a milk allergy which went undiagnosed until she was 5 months old. once the milk allergy was diagnosed and we were able to control that, she was like a different kid already. I took her off reflux meds when she was about 8.5 months and she did well. I originally tried when she was around 7 months and it didn't go well.

Yes, he does have allergy..we started him on ailmentum and when they tested his diaper again a week later he still was coming up positive so they put him on elecare at that time. I've noticed how thin it is.. He also is eating much more frequently probably bc it's not filling him up as much.

My daughter had it so they suspected he could have issues as well. then he was noticeably uncomfortable a few days after we brought him home - so they tested his diaper for blood in his stool

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
DS is almost 5 months and he still has some pretty bad attacks of reflux, spit up & gas... but it's not as constant as it used to be. He used to literally cry in pain all day/night long every single day. Now they're shorter, isolated incidents mostly, and he has days where he seems to feel good the entire time. So even though it's not 100% yet it's much better than it was.
I hope your baby feels better soon!!

Re: Question for those who had a little one with reflux/ painful gas
My DD needed Elecare because of severe reflux, was actually on it til almost 2 yrs old. We had to thicken it with cereal...a LOT of cereal because it is so thin. Ask the ped or the GI about trying that...it helped some.

This! I was breastfeeding my son and I had to mix my breast milk with formula because even my breast milk was too thin. We used the Enfamil AR as well and it definitely helped.

my son was diagnosed after we found blood in his stool. His stool tested positive for visible and microscopic blood.

How old was your DD when you started putting cereal in the bottle? My DS is only 4 weeks old - I will ask GI at our first appt on Friday
