Take a deep breath- It is OK to be disappointed that your friends may not be able to attend your baby shower. It does not sound like you need to be anxious at an event hosted for you- You will know most of the guests so I would try to relax and enjoy it. I think it is wonderful you mother and mother in law want to throw a party to celebrate you and their grandchild. I would try to make the best of it!

Re: Baby shower vent
Why are they saying from now they can't come? Particular reasons?

You never know -- they may be fibbing and wanting to surprise you -- let the invites go out and see what happens.

Re: Baby shower vent
At least you have friends, I hardly do, I didn't want a shower because of that, I felt dumb with little to no friends. but really no one noticed, your family is focused on you and the grandma's - think of all the wonderful gifts you will receive and NEED for little one - family is forever- and everyone there will be excited about the new addition on the way. They also focus on the food too - in my family -sometimes more than the guest of honor ;o)
just smile and take a lot of bathroom breaks - showers usually go fast. Is there ANY of your Friends able to come or sisters or cousins? All you need is one or two people to help hand you the gifts, throw out the wrapping, and write down whats what.

as you get older you'll see you'll really only have a handful of true friends anyway.. and you'll meet a lot of new moms and different people once you have your baby and especially once they're in activities..

I'm sorry you feel like that. Unfortunately it's life and it won't be the last time. Especially when you have the baby. Your life revolves around your baby, etc but others lives don't. I know it sucks and it's hard not to take things personally. Some of my best friends missed important things. I do t expect their lives to revolve around my events although I know it is disappointing and can hurt.

As long as they still send you a gift, you can just chalk it up to bad timing. Showers are so hectic anyways that you wouldn't have had much time to sit with them.
