Lol okay--I was talking about the response to the "no bueno" comment, and I know I'm not the only one who read it that way.

Don't act like I'm the only person to ever make a controversial statement on the boards. Please. Pathetic.

I'm not responding to this anymore. I said what I had to say. Bye.

Huntington School District?

I would talk to people who actually live in the district and currently have kids going there. Not a group of people who have preconceived notions.

I live in the district, I will not send my daughter to that school. DH attended HHS.

I know people who send their children there and have no problem with it. Their children are fine and aren't in a gang.

However there IS ms13 gang activity, not only at the school but in some of the surrounding areas. One of the elementary schools was recently shut down because there were too many shootings and bullet casing found on the playground.

There is nothing to argue about here. Statistics show it isn't a high performing school and there is gang activity. Should you choose to send your child here they will probably be fine. It's not the worst school ever. But for me and a lot of other parents gang activity is enough to find other arrangements.

Re: Huntington School District?

I've heard great things about the district itself, programs they offer and teacher staff. I think it's a huge district and covers so many areas. I grew up right in the heart of the village of Huntington. I think it's a great place to raise a family. Certain areas of Huntington Station has gotten bad over the years (stabbings, shootings and gangs). From friends that I have that currently have their kids in Huntington elementary schools they are considering private schools for their children. The only complaints I have heard is not about the programs or teachers but about the peers they are going to school with. They are already talking about sex in first grade, cursing and bullying is pretty bad too and this is elementary school. So they are really concerned about that not the academics and such. I know this kind of stuff is in every school district but from what I hear it's more intense in this district. This is coming from people I know who have their kids there now.

Oh I had it the other way around. Some parts of
Huntington like by the train station are no bueno.

Funny you should say "no bueno"....

Hmmm...I say no bueno all the time. Does that make me a racist too? It's just a saying people!!!!! Anyone say ciao, or adios, or que sera sera...etc. Is there a racist connotation when saying any of those? The answer is NO.

Lighten up...sheesh

Clearly you misunderstood what I meant.

That's my fault, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to quote your post. It was in reference to the "that's racist" posts.

Does no one seriously see the "no bueno" commentary between two posters? These are obvious references to the large Hispanic population in the part of town being labeled as "bad." I don't really like to call out induviduals, but it seems like no one is noticing this. This is what I'm talking about, and things like this are the reason so many of us feel racially-charged beliefs define many areas and schools. You can have whatever concerns you want about whatever school or town, but you can't say that race is not a part of the equation for too many people.

I read that post the same way. Whether or not "no bueno" was said with malicious/insensitive intent, it was pointed out as funny, which was then followed by a winky face; which was in poor taste. Just my opinion though, which isn't worth much, but I wanted to throw it out there anyway.

Re: Huntington School District?

We live in the S. Huntington school district and have 1 in K and 1 in 2nd I also have close family members in one of the middle schools. I have friends that have lived here all their lives. I grew up out east and wife out west. We love the school district. We go to functions at the primary schools as well as the high school. Yes it's a diverse district but which is not? Yes there are bad parts of town but what town doesn't have them? If the original poster has any questions about Huntington Station or the School district please feel free to PM us.

I agree. At first I brushed off the "no bueno" comment but the winky face confirmed that it was deliberate. To each his own.

Huntington School District?

I wasn't going to even waste my time defending myself but here I am to quickly do just that. Yes I said no bueno. Yes I even...gasp...winked. So I get labeled a racist.

That must be the reason I married someone from Mexico City who only speaks Spanish to my dd. it also must be the reason that when we travel to Mexico City we have an armed driver. Not for the fact that we are nervous we will get held up at a traffic light, kidnapped and taken for ransom...which we know many people who were..and tortured for that matter. It's bc we are racist, you got me.

NO ONE on here knew that about you before now. And obviously if more than one person thought that your comment was slightly racist then it is not really a stretch of the imagination to think that's where you were going with the no bueno comment.

I honestly feel like this post is full of Chat Icon

So many LIFers sit back and wait for someone pick on. You would think it's a teenagers site.

And this is why I mainly stay on the IF board.

Like I said, I wasn't going to post anymore...but I'm having trouble letting go of this one.

In my opinion, the "no bueno" commentary was very, very offensive. If I see something offensive in that way, I'm going to comment on it. I'm not trying to Chat Icon. This commentary seemed to clearly point to the large Hispanic population in Huntington Station, and I felt like that was wrong.

Maybe it was meant in a joking way...but I don't like those types of jokes.

I went to Huntington and I wouldn't send my kids there. I also went to Cold Spring Harbor and I wouldn't send my kids there either.

Huntington School District?

Holy cow. Can we end this. Clearly people thought it was racist. I can tell you she is not racist. If she was I would never go out of my way to help her plan her daughters birthday party.

If people think its racist fine but at this point to continue this is just stirring the pot even no one ever wants to do that on LIF.
