Transitioning to sippy cup

DD just turned one. We are starting to get her introduced to the sippy cup. She will hold it and put the straw in her mouth but will bite on the straw more than suck on it. I'm a first time mom....how do they learn they have to suck on the straw?

Re: Transitioning to sippy cup

We started with some water in a regular sippy cup first because it was more like a nipple. After she mastered that I introduced the straw one. At first she would put her mouth around it and try to suck like a nipple, but after a few days she got the hang of it. She drink from either one, just took some time and patience on my part! Good luck!

Transitioning to sippy cup

My 9 month old loves the tommy tippy soft spout transition sippies. We put water in there for now. She doesn't get the straw one yet but when am drinking out of a straw I offer her it so she can try. I would just stick with the transition sippies if she likes those then offer the straw one so she can try

Re: Transitioning to sippy cup

We started transitioning DD to drink out of a sippy cup last month. She is 9 months and we only gave it to her at night with her last "meal". She finally figured it out this week. We did the Playtex Lil Grippers straw sippy. With that one you can squeeze the container to bring the water up the straw so they get the idea. Our DD would mostly just chew on the straw as well. She still does, but she at least drinks out of it now too!
