I don't know anyone on here, but I can see exactly how someone would say that it's vile and worse for people to be presumptuous enough to assume that a mom hadn't done her homework on something like this AND to act on that by telling a mom with a sick kid who lives and breathes and fears the sickness ever day that the bed she built seems like a coffin. Think about that.

I just want to say, have my post in this thread used the nicest language....absolutely not, but Im PISSED. Im REALLY genuinely pissed, not just being snarky and dramatic and nasty for the sake of it or to perpetuate drama. Im genuinely upset for the poor original poster and it shows in my choice of language. I am completely floored that some people think it is completely appropriate to interject the way they have and say some of the things they have. Then they cowardly hide behind the "I have a right to my opinion/public message board" crap. I don't care where it is.....having the ability to say something doesn't give you the RIGHT too. Do you realize there are real people, with real feelings and real struggles on the receiving end? Even AFTER it was explained the locks were actually a safer alternative, some women found another angle to continue to express their "concerns" and are now going, fine about the locks, but now I think she'll suffocate.
With your "right" to speak comes responsibility with how you use your words. I know for a FACT not ONE of the "concerned dissenters" reached out to the OP personally to express their concern in a kind manner. NOT ONE reached out to be educated by OP before throwing their opinions around. No, instead of privately reaching out, you continue to feel that interjecting in the manner you have is the appropriate avenue.
FTR - the ends of the bed are open.......so get all your facts before telling another mother in a very difficult situation that she is both suffocating her daughter and putting her in a coffin. Thats disgusting.
Please feel free to continue to defend your right to your opinion and express it all you want. You can defend it to you are blue in the face but know that YOU ARE WRONG, INNAPPROPRIATE, OUT OF LINE and INDECENT.
That is all I am saying on this from now on. There is nothing left for me to say that I haven't already said.
Did you look at the original picture? The ends are not open. The foot of the bed is closed off by stairs leading to top bunk. The other sides are open but pushed up against the wall. I admit I do not have a disabled child but FWIW if I put my children in there and closed the door they would be petrified. I don't think the lock is a big deal but the wooden doors with those little windows doesn't seem right to me.

OP I hope you never read these but if you do I know you will brush it right off
I know that bc my sis is the parent of a special needs child and parents of special needs children are the strongest of the strong and deal with ignorant comments from people who have no idea what they are talking about all the time

Fwiw YOU have An able bodied child who might get scared. Who is to say YOUR kid would hate. Roller coaster, but the OPs child would not.
It's wrong to judge the OP by YOUR standards. It's wrong to apply the way YOUR child would react to HER child.
YOU might think the little wooden windows don't seem rite. But how do you get by judging another mother by what you think is appropriate for HER child based on what YOUR able bodies child would like.
Honestly. Does it make you all feel better to keep putting this woman down? DOESeNT she have enough to deal with? Keep giving your ignorant opinions about YOUR child and how YOUR child would feel.
And think for a moment. Think. What the hell do you think this mother goes through knowing she HAS to have a bed like this for her child to keep her safe. Walk a mile in her shoes before you judge her based on your Able bodied child.
Shame on you. Shame on all those who ran to judgement before asking.
And you should all thank who,ever you pray to that you don't have to go through whAt she does, and make decisions she has to based on a child she will probably have to take care of for the rest of her life.

That looks like high end plywood. Just make sure you priced out the right grade materials. I think by the fact that he didn't call you back, you are right. But, I would let it go. I have never asked a contractor to provide proof of what he quoted me for materials. You receipt for the job should be enough.
Wow.. I responded to this without looking what this thread turned into. I am sorry I even posted on it. WOW. This thread turned nasty. Special needs parents do many things to keep their children safe. I work with a family that literally has to belt a child into bed at night or he would kill himself. Seems awful, right? Not if it means your child might not survive the night.
