You'll have to check the expiration date on it. It's usually printed directly on the seat or on a sticker on the seat. Most seats expire 5-6 after the date of manufacture. If it's expired, I would definitely not use it. If it's not, Iwould.

I am not. I didn't even look at the expiration date but it was bought a couple months before I had my son in 2008. So I am just borrowing my brothers.

If it isn't expired and hadn't been in an accident, I would.

I used my old one. We haven't been into an accident with it and it's fine. I plan on using the same car seat with this one too.

As long as its not been in an accident, you check for recalls, and everything is intact. The national highway safety rec. 10 year expiration on the car seat. The reason for this is the straps dry out. The car seat companies rec. 5 year exp. for obvious reason, they want you to but new product.

Mine was expired so I bought a new one. Even though it appeared to be in perfect condition I did some reading about the plastic distorting and breaking in accidents and didn't want to take a chance. Mine was exactly 5 years old, but expired

If it's not expired, I see no reason not to use it. However, there's a good chance it's expired.
