If you ever injured your toe

How long did it take from the time your nail separated from nail bed to the time it fell off?

If you ever injured your toe

IIRC like 4-5 days. The pain went away, too at about that time. Chat Icon ouch, good luck!

btw I was able to get a fake nail put on my toenail in the meantime. You wouldn't know it

If you ever injured your toe

About a week, then the pain subsided.

Hope you feel better soon

Re: If you ever injured your toe

For me I wore a pair of too narrow shoes and walked around the city in them all day and night.

The next day I had this excruciating pain in my big toe nail. I took the polish off and saw all the bruising under the nail.
The pain went away in a few days and the nail felt hollow when I tapped it, like a shell.
It didn't fall off all at once though, it kind of grew out as the new nail grew underneath and pushed the dead one off.
If you can keep the dead nail, it will help the new one grow in better- like a guide.

The next time I lost a nail (yeah I've had a lot of issues! LOL) I kind of cut it off too soon and the new nail grew in all funky and jacked up.

Same thing happened to me when I hurt my big toe. The new nail grew underneath the old one that was still there. It took some time but eventually it popped right off!

Mine fell off and the new nail didn't grow back right either. Almost like it isn't fully attached. That happened in HS and its still the same.

Re: If you ever injured your toe

I tripped and lost my big toenail. It didn't fall off in the fall, but I had it taken off by the podiatrist. The pain went away when I had the nail taken off.

It grew in OK. It was a bit wavy, but that was it.

I hurt my toe windsurfing and then bashed the same toe a few days later getting into a taxi. I went to the podiatrist and he had to remove the nail. It grew in fine.

Re: If you ever injured your toe

Thank you so much, everyone! You are making me feel better. I see this whole thing is not so uncommon.

In the middle of July I bumped my toe while walking around the pool on a small electric outlet that was sticking out from the pool ground.

It hurt REALLY bad, so bad I had to take a painkiller! But it's when I realized in a few days that my nail separated from the nail bed that I really started to freak out! There is no infection anymore, and the skin under the nail looks pink and healthy but the nail is attached at the tip. It's actually very annoying because I have to be extra careful to make sure it doesn't get caught on anything. Yesterday I was putting on jeans and it got caught in the leg and got bent! It literally STOOD up right! THAT hurt!

Now it's back to "normal". I am actually hoping that it will not fall off until the sandal season is over, so that I can at least have decent looking feet.

Just be careful going forward about getting pedicures. I was so excited to finally be able to get a pedi after my new nail finally grew in enough and I immediately got a fungus after that!
The podiatrist told me that the new nail may not attach properly and it is more susceptible to fungus since it's not attached as well as the original nail.
