Another Kinder question - How long until they adjust to the new routine
I know there are a lot of kindergarten questions, so I apologize for one more!
I'm anticipating a very tired, crabby monster to come home from school the first few weeks. How long should I expect this?
How long does it usually take for the kids to get acclimated to the new routine and get on a good schedule?
My parents will be picking my son up after school, then my husband will get him after work. I wont see him until several hours after the school day is over. (Mom Guilt! Ugh)
Will he get into the swing of things by the end of the second week, or will it take longer? A month? yikes...

It took my daughter a couple of weeks to adjust. She was coming from a pre k program 3 days a week 3 hrs a day.
It's a long day for them. My daughter also complained that it was very hot which I'm sure didn't help.

It took my daughter a couple of weeks to adjust. She was coming from a pre k program 3 days a week 3 hrs a day.
It's a long day for them. My daughter also complained that it was very hot which I'm sure didn't help.
My son was at pre-k 4 days, and his class started at 12:00. I know he'll be exhausted. He's not crazy about doing things early in the morning. And this is all day, every day. Poor kid!

With my DD, I would say the first 4'ish weeks were the hardest. She came home exhausted every day and would basically walk in the door, plop down on the couch, and not move until dinner. Then October hit and all of a sudden she just pepped up and got into the swing of things. She came home with much more energy and would run around and play when she got home instead of just vegetating.
I expect her to be the same way when 1st grade starts this year. I think kids (in any grade really) need time to acclimate to the new routine and longer day.

Thanks everyone. I will cross my fingers we will be all good by October.
I know we all go through this at some point, but I wont be home with him after school, so I have major mom-guilt. I want to be there to ease him into the transition, but I wont get home until several hours after school is over.
My parents will pick him up at 3:00 and then my husband gets the kids after work at 4:30. I wont be home til 6:00.

DS was in full day daycare before starting full day K. I thought it would be an easy transition, but it still took several weeks to adjust to the new schedule. He had to wake up earlier and there wasn't a long rest time. He was pretty tired the first few weeks, but once he adjusted, things went smoothly.

It takes DS about 3-4 weeks to adjust every year.
