Allergy / Cold Question
I swear Dr.'s make my head spin...lol
Took my 7 yr old to dr for coughing (phelmy) that wouldn't go away for a week, dr. #1 said he heard some crackling in her lungs, put her on omnicef, never checked her ears, which I realized in the card. Check back in a week, coughing still going on Dr. #2 says she is shocked Omnicef didn't work, puts her on nuebulizer, that helps alot but says her ears are full of puss, puts her on a new antibiotic. Cough is ok still here, but MUCH better, go for 2nd re-check, different dr. says her ears are not infected, not sure if they ever were....she thinks it is allergies, foggy liquid in there. So she said to use Claritin for a month.
I am pissed that DD has been on antibiotic for 15 days and may of never needed it ??
Anyone experience anything like this? I am thinking maybe she did have infection and antibiotic cleared in and Dr. #3 saw the after effects?
Frustraing and is clartin safe to use everyday for 30 days ??
thanks mommies :)

Re: Allergy / Cold Question
Well sounds like maybe you needs a new dr...lol.
Ok. Just because it is allergy does NOT mean you did not need antibiotics. Your child could have gotten a bacterial infection from the allergies. Just like if you get a cold you could end up with a sinus infections that doesn't clear and might need meds. Allergies could cause a sinus infection or chest infection that might needs antibiotics.
Not sure of the timing but the meds could have cleared the ear infection.
As far as meds. Yes people take allergy meds for months. My ped and allergist tell me it is ok for my daughter to be on them everyday. We end up on them for at least a month in the spring and fall. Usually the time that whatever the pollen is in the air.

Re: Allergy / Cold Question
for DS and myself, if allergies aren't controlled right away, we end up with sinus/ear infections. She probably has allergies. My DS takes Zyrtec liquid. If he does end up with sinus/ear infection, I give him benadryl at night time. the allergy meds are usually taken long term, until the season is over.

Re: Allergy / Cold Question
My kids don't get relief from Claritin. It is the weakest. You might have to experiment and see too. My kids used allergra for the past few years. We are retrying Zyrtec now.
