One year old finger-foods to feed himself at daycare??
Julian is about a year old, turned one in September.
The daycare said that he looks FONDLY at all the other kids finger foods and things that they can easily feed themselves. I send him with mum mum's but nothing he can eat on his own, aside from that.
Otherwise, he is fed the slightly pureed - basically chunky organic food I either buy or make for him. He only has six teeth, front only, and I get nervous about giving him TOO chunky or thick. He is fed this stuff with a spoon because it's not something he can feed himself, using a spoon and all. He still has to learn that. Also, he has such a sensitive gag reflex!!! Just a little bit of quinoa and he's gagging and sometimes he spits it up. It's like, he enjoys the flavor and wants to eat it but he still needs to get used to the thicker things.
So far my ideas are:
Banana sliced up Organic Puffs Cucumber sliced Apples sliced Cheese sliced (he likes fresh mozzarella)
Can anyone suggest another kind of cheese that would be good?
And can anyone suggest any other ideas? I'm a little obsessed with him eating organic, natural, non-processed, and healthy foods, if possible.
HELP!

Oh good - I eat organic waffles at home and he has eyed them and I actually gave him a piece once and he liked it! Forgot all about that!
Thanks!

You don't need teeth to chew food so at this point I would send him in with anything.
Pasta, Chicken, fruits veggies.
also, I would put a spoon or fork in his hand even if he doesn't eat with it he will start to want to try. I did it as a way to distract my DS when we were trying to feed him and it actually worked by getting him to feed himself pretty early on.

ITA with all of this! At that age, I would often send in sandwiches too (cream cheese, jelly, hummus, grilled cheese) and just cut it up into little pieces.

I used to put a thin smear of hummus on bread and cut it into small bitesize pieces. It was one of DDs favs!

I'm going to start being a little more adventurous.
He does get to hold a spoon all the time but to him, it's a toy right now. I'm sure as he grows he'll learn.
The only thing about the food aside from just the chewing/teeth thing is the GAG issue. He has some sensitive gag reflex!!

i agree with this too. DS has 6 teeth and eats so much! he doesn't use a spoon/fork yet but he manages to get everything in his mouth.
how about mac and cheese? you can make a homemade batch (very easy!) so that it's not a processed food. also we do organic veggie burgers which are really soft and easy for them to eat.

Earths best has frozen pancakes, waffles, French toast sticks. I also make a big batch my own pancakes for DD and freeze them. Also I give her cheddar cheese I get the Horizon brand which is organic. Cut up fruits apple, pear, watermelon.
Also what about yogurt melts, the Happy baby brand has these which is organic and Gerber has an organic version

At that point, you can do so many things. Most anything you give as a puree you can give in small pieces. Diced steamed veggies (french cut green beans, peas, carrots, corn, broccoli, zucchini, sweet potato, squash) and soft fruits like berries, bananas, pears, melon, etc. I saved apples for a little later bc they're harder to chew. Other than that, pasta with butter, mac and cheese, open faced grilled cheese, quesadillas, meaatballs, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, roasted or poached chicken, waffles, pancakes, french toast, crackers, diced cheese, hard boiled egg.

My son would gag as well if it was something I was serving him on a spoon (like for instance a stage 3 food) but, did fine on solids if it was something he could feed himself with his fingers.
I think a lot of times they just assume since you are feeding them with a spoon, it's going to be a puree.

Re: One year old finger-foods to feed himself at daycare??
DS will be 1 on October 19th. He has two teeth. He eats everything. I pack his lunch daily.
Examples: Today he got pasta with tomato sauce, and sweet potato kugel (leftover from Rosh Hashana) Cheese stick Cheerios Blueberries
I send things like grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, grilled chicken, pasta, etc etc. Snacks are fruit, arrowroot cookies, cheerios, cheese, yogurt, applesauce. He also loves pancakes and waffles.
ETA: Zucchini or broccoli pancakes make great lunches! The daycare teachers know what needs to be cut up into smaller bites and what he can handle on his own.

What about fresh cooked peas? As for cheese, feta or goat are easy to eat and soft. Blueberries, mango, bananas, pears all very soft and easy to chew. Pears sometimes I'll boil and drizzle a little cinnamon on. It's extremely soft. Elbow pasta (Dreamfield pasta was recommended by our nutritionist)
