When your LO is in Kindergarten

Is there a whole new meaning to fresh?! DS is usually a really good kid and has always been my pleaser. He has his moments here and there, but now there's a new fresh boy that comes out once in a while. The eye rolling, the talking back and questioning my punishments. Now his new thing when he's in trouble is going to his room to be alone. He never did that before.

Love these new phases these kids like to throw at us?!

When your LO is in Kindergarten

That happened to my DS when he turned 4. It was a nightmare, now at 6 he isn't as bad. I still get the eye roll and answering back sometimes but not like it was at 4 - 5.5.

Same here… When DS was 4 in PreK, I remember having a talk with one of his teachers about this, and she said it was normal. She said at that age kids want to be independent but, at the same time, they can be clingy at moments.

It's crazy because you hear about 2 and maybe 3 but hardly hear anything aboht 4. It's like my son turned 4 and had a very strong opinion and It was the only one that matter. My cousin and said went through the same thing. I used to catch myself in arguments with him. Lol

Re: When your LO is in Kindergarten

The thing we hear constantly now, even just randomly saying it when he's alone in his room is "I'm going to punch you in the face".

Drives me insane.

Oh yes - he has some new gems .....with attitude.
It's being around different kids - and for him, I think some of the older kids at before/after care.

My oldest son is 6/ 1st grade and the amount of attitude I've been getting is off the charts. And to think I used to refer to him as "My Sanity" because he was so easy going! Chat Icon

In our case, I think he's tired. It's the difference of him being in school full day, whereas last year kindergarten was only for 1/2 a day.

YES this happened with my sweet DS. It was so not normal for him.

He is 6 now, and back to his sweet self - better than ever.

It will get better! Chat Icon

Re: When your LO is in Kindergarten

YES!! Well, DS has been having a lit of trouble transitioning. It's been a very rough couple of months.
I think some has to do with lack of naps and going into a totally new environment. He went from his pre-k daycare to a new before/after care and kindergarten where he knew no one in the class and it's work-work-work. And his Pre-K was a lot more "learn through play" and now it's sit and do this worksheet. Just a lot of difficult changes for him.
He has come out with a few really awesomeChat Icon lines though.
Last week when I had him in time out he was yelling at me "You can't tell me what to do, Old Lady!" Chat Icon Chat Icon
And then later as he was closing the door on me he yelled "You F&^ker!!"Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon (definitely learned that at his before/after care. I am NOT pleased!!!)
It's just crazy some days - but I still have hope once he really gets settled in, it will get better...it has to, right?Chat Icon
