Re: countertops at lowes/hd
We had gone through consumers when we re-did the kitchen in our co-op. They had different levels of pricing for different colors of the various materials. We stuck with granite in the lowest level, and it was about $700 total. I don't remember the exact square footage but we had a galley kitchen with a lot of countertop space (maybe 8 ft. In length total?). The experience was good - they subcontract out to a granite yard and we got to go in and examine our piece. The overall experience was no less professional than when our private contractor went through the process directly when we had done our bathroom.
Sorry, I know it's not lowes or hd, but consumers is likely a similar experience :)

Wow! Only $700 for granite? That seems really inexpensive! Especially for 8 ft of counter space. That included installation too? I dont mean to question it but that just seems so low. Is it a thinner piece of granite? Where was the granite yard? TIA!

countertops at lowes/hd
We had ours done by Lowes in 2007. We are eventually going to redo our entire kitchen but, needed something in the interim.
We have a formica with a marbly look to it and it was relatively inexpensive. We had a good experience but, I can't remember the price.

this is kind of the situation we are in. we are not going to be redoing our kitchen for a long time. theres nothing really wrong with it, the cabinets are high and decent looking.
but the countertops are tile and terrible. plus i think it would just change the whole look of the cabinets. but i don't want to spend a ton if its not my forever kitchen.

Re: countertops at lowes/hd
i used HD for mine and i LOVED them.
you order the countertops through them, but they really outsource to a vendor that they like. ours were installed by penn fabrication (i think thats the name) and they did such a beautiful job. i have a lot of couterspace and needed several seams and the countertop is white..you barely see the seams.
